I was intrigued by this news story. The elephant in the room is actually the audience .I do not think that there is actually an agenda for the BBC to employ Left Wing comedians but whoever wrote the article needs to consider where political satire is found on the BBC and how this relates to the demographic. A lot of politically edgy comedy can be said to find it's way on to Radio Four. Most of the people listening to this station will be of a particular level of education and therefore do not need much persuading that something like Brexit is not a good idea. You can apply this to many other topics as well because anyone who is informed to any degree is going to share the same view exposed by comedians. It is not that the BBC is purposely employing comedians who are hostile to the government but more a case of the comedians needing to tailor their acts to reflect the consensus amongst that part of the population who are educated.
I think that all political comedy including cartoonists latch on to those elements within politics which are not credible. At this point in time we have a government that is ripe for ridicule. There is no way that a Boris and his ilk can be taken with even the remotest level of credibility and I think that the audience for comedy expects the kind of things they propose taken to task. I think political satire remains the most salient form of comedy and the most perceptive. It is something that is very much part of the English character right from the days of the likes of Hogarth and Cruikshank.
It is difficult what a Right wing comedian could satirize other than the failings of liberalism. I want my comedy to make sharp political and social judgements but the Right's continual failings whenever in power would seem to obviate comedians of the same political persuasion being effective. You do wonder what kind of things someone like Nigel Farage finds funny. I would expoect to see something like "It ain't 'alf hot, Mum" being top of the list.
Anyone watching that who voted Brexit should hang their head in ****ing shame.

Can’t read the article as it’s behind a paywall, but I would say that audience figures on the BBCs satirical shows are down. That could just be part of the general trend of TV, but a lot of this type of comedy is stuck on Brexit & Trump. I think this has lead to these shows getting stale and unoriginal.
Have read other newspaper reports and unfortunately like most twitter journalists he has sensationalised it. The incoming director general will not be speaking about plans until Thursday.
An Ofcom report found BBC comedy was biased towards the left wing as well as other findings like the news not having enough black perspectives,

A short clip, showing the Sheriff of Kenosha with strong views on dealing with a certain group of people, after 5 young black men had been arrested. Maybe his views have changed since this was recorded?

I am having to wait an extra year, before receiving my state pension and my wife is one of the WASPI group having to wait 6 years longer for hers. Future generations won’t live long enough to receive a pension if they keep voting for the Tories, because they are the party driving the delay in paying state pensions, and this poster is something they will pick up on.

We've had confirmation that we qualify for Dutch/EU permanent residence permits. It's Amsterdam Saturday for our biometric scans with the paperwork and ID cards to be delivered in due course. Celebratory picnic in Vondelpark to follow. being sure to keep away from the busy centre.

If it weren’t for my wife’s ongoing health issues, and my not wishing to coerce her into travelling to Spain at such a potentially dangerous time, I would be doing exactly the same.
Circumstances have conspired against me, condemning me to a less financially favourable future, than the one I planned.
Needless to say, I don’t blame my wife for this, but the people who voted for a false future, built on the lies of Johnson, Patel, Gove, Mogg and Farage.
I am keeping my fingers crossed that at some stage, in the near future, Spain realises that, in some regions, it needs the financial support of the UK expats and proposes a bilateral agreement to allow reciprocal health treatment between the two countries, and some freedom of movement.
It makes sense St B but since when has commonsense and logic entered the political arena. It made sense for the UK to remain an influential member of the EU having a big input to the necessary reforms and having the mutual support through these hard times. But no by a narrow majority in a fraudulent referendum the jingoistic xenophobes "won" ****ing up so many lives by doing so.
