I truly wish I had your confidence in him I really do....have not had a lot of confidence in him for quite a while. Nothing I heard over the weekend was anything than rhetoric unfortunately nothing of substance for me anyway.....JMO though.

Sorry my post wasn't clear, I think. They've not been trying to calm us but calm all the organisations that will panic and end up damaging our economy.
I agree. Osborne sounded weak and was mouthing nothings really this morning. At one point he even invented a word so disinterested was his delivery.
Whatever colour your politics it's very evident we have hit a low point in the uk as far as political leadership goes.

No - the Cabinet is appointed by Corbyn, so they have the right to resign if they wish.
Understand that there will be a vote of no-confidence motion tabled at the weekly meeting of the MPs tonight. If successful, Corbyn will likely stand again in leadership election, and any challenger would need 51 MPs to support them (and they will get that).

I'm surprised at Jeremy Corbin. I am not a Labour supporter so I hope I don't start a row with those that are, but I thought he would not put himself first. All the 'experts' on the TV are saying that his unwillingness to stand down is pulling the Labour party apart. I thought he would put what was best for the party first. There is talk of the party splitting. How will they be a credible opposition to the Tory party? Even if a leadership campaign is triggered he intends to stand again and there is the possibility he will win. The Labour party if they are to be elected again need to appeal to a wider section of the electorate and that will not happen with Corbin as leader. I understand that the hard-core Labour supporters back him but that will not get Labour elected.
In public yes, behind doors no. They are miles apart. Cameron made sure that he ruined Gove by giving him the tough reform jobs which would always keep him out of the top job.
Cameron is a centreist like Blair. Osborne is too. Gove, Boris and May are Tory right of centre. Grayling is Tory right.
Not really, times have changed, the landscape has shifted. The party would still have to elect a new leader.
Principles are admirable. But the practical politics via which those principles may be applied in the real world depend on two characteristics Corbyn lacks the capacity for; leadership and compromise.
Are we actually going to see the two parties split? I imagine the Tories will sort themselves out eventually - they usually do after a bout of back-stabbing -but a Labour split looks very possible.
I'm beginning to see the logic behind this idea of two new parties. One liberal, centre ground party made up of the Blairites and Cameroons and one made up of the traditionalist wings of the Conservative and Labour parties. I can't imagine who could lead that second party though.

This is politics. politician is a job. Corbyn is in his party to stand for his views. The vast majority of politicians these days are in politics because of the job. They switch sides to further their own careers. Look at Ahmed Sheik in the SNP. She failed to get elected as a conservative and now she is an MP for the SNP!!!
Don't believe any politician when they warble on about "I came into politics to help people or to change things." The vast majority that are in there at the moment came into politics to further their own careers and they will support whatever will further them and then spin it in a favourable light.
Corbyn is doing what is actually best for the Labour party grassroots. He is trying to make sure that the working class minority of the PLP retains the brand name "Labour Party" and that the centrist Blairite faction have to split off without the brand name.
It is quite the opposite of what is happening in the Tory party. The Tory party are ousting the centrists to return to what Conservatives represent. The Labour centrists are trying to oust the real Labour MPs to make it even more Blairite.
Non Blairites like the Eagles are jumping ship to try and keep the 2 sides from splitting but the reality is that Labour are doomed with or without Corbyn if they do not change policies back to fighting for the working class and that will not happen with a majority of Blairites in the party.
Corbyn is toast either way and he knows it but he is just trying to hold the brand name.
Like I say. Politics is my favourite sport.
