Have you not noticed? The LibDem vote has collapsed. There’s not much mileage at all in tacit pacts between them and Labour. And what happened to the People’s Vote pressure group btw? Are you going to blame Labour for the collapse of that?

On Brexit, Corbyn is to be congratulated for achieving a position that every Labour activist can stand by; Labour have maintained party discipline far better than the Tories (who’ve had to lock half their recognisable faces in a cupboard for the duration). Jo Swinson’s Revoke masterstroke has blown up in her face.

The combined weight of the entire media, including the BBC and the Jewish Chronicle, have made this an impossible election for Labour. How in God’s name do you get your message across when the media is so utterly determined to sell your opponent’s narrative?

Simple, you rely on the ever neutral BBC to refute the lies and point the voters in the direction of the truth. <whistle>

Fair comment, but I would argue that Glastonbury chant related to the younger voters buying into the Labour message, not just into Corbyn the (somewhat dour) personality. With Boris it’s completely the opposite: nothing he says has any substance whatsoever, but the Ragged Trousered Philanthropists in his audience just love his schtick.

I just discovered I got my £200 winter fuel payment in the bank this morning. I don't need it and I don't want it. It's going to a local single mother with two children who are really struggling. My in-laws also get it and they are worth close to half a million quid. Bloody ridiculous waste when this money could be more fairly distributed to those who actually need it.

I think the issue with some of these payments, is that it would cost more to means test them than would be saved by reducing payments to those who don't need them. The WFA can be a real ,life saver to some old people.

Hopefully a lot of those who don't need the money, will follow your lead and pass it on, in some way, to others who do.

Mine came just in time for me to pay our last quarters bill. The remainder will go to the Huntington’s association. As I do every year along with several other charities.

I agree Corbyn is being savaged.
A nice man, but not a leader. He is such an easy target.
For different reasons so was Brown. Then the wrong Milliband backed by Block union votes. We've had 3 Labour leaders in a row who have not been fit for purpose. A sad lesson in how to avoid power and fight each other, whilst the Tories have economically starved the masses and gorged on the entrails. It's led to a populist PM who will likely embrace fascism. Those who back him will have noted the checks and balances of the judiciary. Expect legislation that will curtail their power.

It is easy to blame the right wing media, and much of it is contemptible but the Labour Party has been scoring own goals for a dozen years.

So as we move towards being the fifty first state of a country that doesn't recognise climate change, watches regular mass shootings in it's schools. Encourages big Pharma to spread opiate addiction, without any corrective legislation of note. I wonder how can I explain our failure to my grandkids.

Agreed, but if we had a proper joined up IT system between government departments it would be simple to automatically flag up if a pensioner had additional sources of income (as in still paying tax) then they can be taken off the list. If a particular person was still in need there could be an appeal process put in place for that.

The problem is governments are notorious for wasting money on ridiculously expensive patchwork IT systems that never talk to one another, or even work as designed. Everyone in need in this country could benefit hugely if the wastage was cut out. But we all know that will never happen with this lot in charge.

The problem for Labour is not that the LD vote has collapsed but rather that it hasn't. If you add their combined share throughout the campaign it's always been in the high 40's. Since the start of the campaign the LD share has moved from the high teens to the mid teens. Labour's share meanwhile has gone from high 20's to low 30's. There are enough votes to win but they need to be shared efficiently. Neither party seems willing to do the necessary deals.

The most important deal they could do is in Uxbridge and Ruislip, where Johnson could be unseated if the Lib Dem’s and Greens vote Labour.
There is a petition urging this to happen, with the prospect of a similar petition asking Labour voters to back the Lib Dem in Esther and Walton, Raab’s seat.
