If both teams qualify for the same competition, the one with the higher Uefa co-efficient ranking would be allowed to enter at the expense of the other. As things stand, Newcastle are ranked 65 and Rangers are down at 101.

Newcastle are fifth just now, I think - they can qualify by being fifth or sixth.

Rangers are in with a shout of the Scottish Cup - you'd expect them to get to the quarters at least.

I'm sure it just means that Ashley will sell his stake in Newcastle as soon as he can.

Still, it's pretty extraordinary.

If this has happened before, I didn't know about it. I know there were questions about the amount of money Abramovitch gave to a Russian team (CSKA possibly?) via his gas company.
