I was introduced to some of his poetry and essays during my 'English' literature studies and thought his gifted way with words was so down to earth, yet sublime. Some of his more rustic expressions caused me a lot of problems but I eventually got the gist of most of it. He will be much missed and his work will be even more treasured now - if that's possible. 74 is not so old though - do you know what caused his demise?

I think Bayern well deserved to win. Chelsky reminded me a bit of Karagandy - defending and hitting on the break, though to be fair their play was somewhat superior to that of the Kazakhs! :emoticon-0105-wink:

Mourinho wanted to win by foul play 2002 , 11 years on the man is a cheat with Walter smith negative tactics , these kind of people will kill football

I don't know tbh. I don't know what the etiquette is, so just passed in my condolences and left it at that.

I was surprised at Chelsea. They were better than I thought they'd be.

Ah, well, I was sorry to hear the sad news of his passing in any case as I'm sure were many, many others who were privileged to know of him and/or his wonderful talent in literature.

Chelsea certainly have some excellent players and from what I've seen of them, I think the present outfit may be the best they've had for some time. I imagine they'll be a force to be reckoned with this year in every competition. It's not that I have anything in particular against them but my distaste for the portugeezer is such that I can quite happily be completely irrational in my dislike of him!

Worth noting that Bayern just now are not operating at anywhere near the level they were at their peak last season and they still dominated the game. Chelsea have some good young players, Hazard is the only one who would get anywhere near the Bayern team but Schurrle, De Bruyne and Oscar are class players in the making. They can compete with the best of the English teams but the Germans are still too strong.

Barcelona have incredible quality going forward but they refuse to change their style for anyone and their woeful defence will be exposed by Bayern or Dortmund again. Not convinced Real Madrid will have the right blend this season and the only team I can see seriously challenging the Germans is Juventus, they did not do themselves justice against Bayern last season and I expect better from them this time when it matters.

PSG have potential with Cavani added to an already strong squad, but at the minute they look some way off the fluent, efficient outfits of Juve, Bayern and Dortmund.

Incredibly, Dortmund are 25/1 and Juventus 20/1, while Man Utd, Man City and Chelsea are all priced under 14/1.

<ok> Good post with which I'm inclined to agree in the main but I have a suspicion that Man City may be one team for which to watch out. Incredibly, I believe they've spent over £80m (net) on the likes of Navas, Fernandinho, Negredo and Jovetic and Manuel Luis Pellegrini Ripamonti is a very shrewd manager - despite the fact that he was sacked by Real Madrid (to my mind he was treated abysmally by them).

Edit: I hope you are completely wrong about Barca's defence in any case. <fingerscrossed>

Man City have bought some very good players, but how much have they actually improved their best 11? Jovetic is a superb talent, wanted Fiorentina to keep him because they have built a very nice attacking team this season which would have been even stronger with him. Ive always liked Negredo but I would have Aguero and Dzeko ahead of him, Navas is also a class player but I dont think he is much better than Silva or Nasri(inconsistent), Fernandinho may have the most impact on actually improving their best 11 of the signings. They lost Balotelli and Tevez but you have to say they have improved the squad overall since last season. They are a strong squad, strongest in England imo but as a club they still have not achieved anything in Europe and that counts for something, maybe its a year or so too soon for me to consider them serious contenders, I think there are stronger first 11s out there but we will see how they get on in the knockout stages.

Add Gordon Waddell to the The Rangers enemies list:

[h=1]Gordon Waddell: Fan-backed ownership scheme at Hearts shows Rangers supporters the road they should have taken[/h] JAMBOS organised themselves in bid to save their club while string of chancers took advantage of Ibrox meltdown.

WITH the right kind of leadership and governance, Rangers could have been golden by now. Miles back down the road.
Instead their fans have had to watch a seemingly endless line of charlatans, con-artists, chancers and liars pass through their club.
It’s been like some kind of anti-Disney parade, as they looked to see what they could make from it, not what they could make of it.
Which is why they should be looking on with interest at where Hearts are headed this morning. See what they COULD have had.

Said it at the time the best thing they could have done, was ditch the men in suits and make a clean start.
