Yeah I think he is offside in that situation, you have to be in your own half when the ball is played for it to be impossible for you to be offside... well that's how I understand it.

Best was given offside when he headed the ball in our half, however he ran back from an offside position in their half. Is this right?

Sounds wrong to me. Not a ref or anything but I have always understood that you cannot be offside in your own half. Coming back from offside - don't think that should make any difference if the point of contact with the ball took place in his half.

Any closet referree's here today that can help us with this???

:s Yeah <laugh>
Leazes is right, if he was in an offside position when the ball is played it doesn't matter where he is when he receives the ball he's still offside.
Although at the time I was a bit confused as I didn't see where he'd come from.

Don't know why there's been so much confusion over the offside decision, it's always been where the player is when the ball's played that determines it's offside.

<whistle>
Had a match this morning before going to Bolton match and got hatfuls of abuse from both sides. Can't win whether you're right are wrong and nobody respects you, and this was at an Under-12s match. From a biased opinion, I think it's an impossible job calling offsides without the help of assistants (which I don't have) as you have an isometric view of the play and you're watching the player who passed the ball to check there was no fouls AND the line to check he was onside.
However, at PL level you have assistants and you're more experienced so should be calling these decisions right. And I imagine they're getting paid a damn site more than I am!

I only hope you're declaring all your refs earnings as I'm a tax inspector and I'll be looking out with interest to your returns.

Tax? It's cash in hand so bollocks to that ;)
Just found out I got another two tomorrow one after another, I'll take it. It's paying for my season ticket at the moment :D
