That's how to deliver a vocal performance, non of that stupid warble type thing at the end of a line some female vocalists like to use now,really annoying that **** is.

An almost identical riff had been played ten years before on the 1968 Steve Marcus jazz track "Half a Heart", and it has been suggested that Ravenscroft's performance on "guess the song and no googling nor looking at the Youtube comments" may have been influenced by it.

Isn't it, I didn't know about it until I read up on it last night.

I doubt he ever expected his rendition to become a massive hit in the US and UK. His punishment being the tune plaguing him for the rest of his life.

My girls introduced me to their girl's music ... and I have to say I'm now a fan ... she's lyrically controversial and writes her own songs... given a chance to support Olivia Rodrigo and not only grasped it but has now surpassed her 'sponsor' ... this particular track is rather good because it tracks her original composition from when a virtual nobody to the venues she now performs in ...
