Jeremy Paxman and before him, Brian Walden refused to cow tow down to politicians and would ask them awkward questions others wouldn't, and refused to let them get away with inadequate answers and would persist until they got an answer. He is an arsehole but at least he asked questions of the politicians who's wages we pay about how they are spending the money we give them in taxes.
He's just a rabble rousing tellyhead. Much the same as all of them, with a bit of faux belligerence thrown in.
He aims for the lowest common denominator, and it seems hits it, if viewing figures are high for his programme. He enjoys presenting himself a a serious journalist, "holding the government to account" one of the more laughable claims made by him and which is not actually his job. His job, at a stretch is to be a reporter, and then introduce some frothy rubbish.
He won't be missed by me as I hardly ever see him on, and never live, but ****e like him will not stay submerged for long.

Quite. It seems that anyone who says they're a victim must be automatically believed even without evidence or substantiation. A black female reporter ( for the Sun like) says -quote 'if MM says she's suffered from racism, then she has' Followed by '' anyone who says otherwise is white'. Racist remark itself.
