Welbeck doesn't deserve the nomination, but those saying he's simply not a good player need to learn more about football. I can also think of a lot of players who are more deserving of a nomination than Eden Hazard and Jack Wilshere. Leighton Baines comes to mind. Morgan Schneiderlin comes to mind.
I'm not saying he's not a good player in the making, I just think he's an average player until he learns to improve his control and scoring rate.
I would vote Shaw for young player of the year (if nothing else he is the youngest!), and Bale for player of the year. I don't think anyone could deny that he has been outstanding. I think Spurs would be mid-table without him.
I really like Welbeck. If you've got Van Persie and Rooney in your team you don't need another goalscorer. Besides, he's not even a centre forward, he's only started two games up front this season. His defensive work-rate as a wide player is an asset, he's good at taking players on, good in the air, superb at retaining possession. Given United's dominance this season, and his consistent involvement, it's hard to begrudge him a place on the list.
How the **** is Schneiderlin not nominated for anything? He's 23 as well and PFA young player is 23 and under. It just shows how much of a joke these awards are.
Welbeck is a good player but not good enough for this award IMO, many others should be before him but because he plays for Man U he gets nominated.
Disappointed Shaw didn't make the young player of the year nominees. He's 17 and already one of the best left backs in the PL. For that matter Schneiderlin could have made the young player list too. I don't think you should be able to be nominated for both either.
Defensive players rarely get nominated for this award, Baines has been superb all season along with Vertonghen at spurs and of course Morgan and Shaw fall into this bracket.
Michael Carrick, really! Just seen it all on SSN. Said he has had 4 assists and scored 2 goals? Just looked at the stats for this season and Da Guzman has a better goal/assist ratio than Carrick, as do Fellaini , Gerrard any many others. I'm not saying they deserve player of the season because I don't believe they do. But Carrick, what the hell do they base these awards on!Total joke! Bale for me...
Morgan also has more goals and assists than Welbeck in a worse team, along with most miles covered, tackles and interceptions in the top 5 leagues in Europe. But yeah, attacking players
Carrick i think is the only one of those they used their brains on actually, he's been outstanding for United this season. Definatly a good nominee imho
Carrick is one of the best CM's in the league. And you can't base a CM's stats on goals and assists, especially for a defensive minded one's like Carrick. Very under rated player and deserves to be nominated.
Carrick has definitely been one of the outstanding midfielders this season, and should be nailed on as an England starter.
Jack Cork has 0 goals and 1 assist and I'm sure we all agree he's been very good? Not player of the season worthy, obviously, but if you think 2 goals 4 assists is risible, then what do you make of 0 and 1!?
Precisely my point. It's stupid to base how good a CDM's season has been based on goals and assists. It's like basing a striker's season on how many clean sheets his team has kept!
Looks like the response has been covered for that one. Carrick has been very good. He even played a few games at CB earlier in the season when they had all those injuries.
