Absolute shocker in my opinion, as it was never a foul and also should have been a free kick to Stoke in the first place as the Liverpool player controlled the ball with his hand.
The surprising thing is that Sky have hardly gave it a mention, and have concentrated on the far more understandable decision of disallowing Newcastle's goal against Man City..Strange world we live in eh!
 
It was soft but was a penalty IMO.

Wilson should have ushered Sterling out of the box - he was wide and going nowhere. He put his leg across Sterling - and when you look at how slight Sterling is, it won't take much to floor him (without considering if Sterling wanted the contact).

At the end of the day if Wilson doesn't make a very poor attempt at winning the ball, there's no incident and Sterling is still on his feet.
 
It was a poor call especially considering the build up play, but I have to say it was even poorer defending.
 
No way Sterling should ever have got to the area. Sterling controlled it with upper arm and elbow. Linesman should have helped the referee.

Suarez has both arms up in penalty area, ball hits both. No penalty.

What is going onNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN?

I accept that Huth is somewhat of a thug. But that does not make up for the fact that Sterling jumped with his arm bot up and away from his body.

We could carry on debating this but if your support Liverpool you see it one way whilst I will see it another way.

Also I remember the comical dive by Suarez in the same game. He admitted afterwards he dived too try and win the game for Liverpool.

I don't disagree about the part hitting his hand but that doesn't mean you can do a bad tackle afterwards. Play to the whistle.

The handball was difficult to spot from the ref's position and certainly wasn't intentional it was just the way he jumped.

The ref can only give what he sees and it was easy to see a Stoke defender taking a big swing at Sterling and getting none of the ball and some of the player.

In a wall if you put your arm across your chest for protection and you get hit a penalty is awarded.

There was contact, but it was at hip height, no foul.

I am afraid I cannot agree with you regarding Sterling. His arm/hand was away from his body and he controlled the ball with it, therefore handball should definitely have been given in our favour. I also think that there was none or, at most, minimal contact by Wilson in the box and Sterling went down easily. A poor decision by the ref IMO. However Stoke's defending for each of the first 2 goals was very poor and for the 4th goal the defending was not too clever either.

The penalty decision turned the game in your favour I think. A very exciting, end to end game, but I am concerned by the number of goals we have conceded since Xmas.
 
The linesman should have liaised with the referee and he had the clearest view of all. As you and I say PP, Sterling jumped with his arms away from his body. He controlled the ball with his arm. Wilson for a moment hesitated and then got on with the game. Again the referee from a good 35 yards gave the the penalty when the linesman was much better positioned.

Very poor teamwork by the Andrew Taylor and his linesmen.
 
Well you know what they say.....they all even themselves out over the season......pppfffffff!

Also see that Mike Jones has been dropped because of his performance in the Newcastle/Man City match. Newcastle moan they get the ref dropped. Hughes moans, he gets a touchline ban!

No offence lads but it was a rubbish bit of defending and it was a pen even if a harsh one. These guys should know by now that when you throw a leg out like that you're in trouble if you don't get the ball. The handball however should have been given IMO and it was blatantly a call to be made by the linesman given his view of it.

The Daily Fail quote isn't really conclusive proof is it mate.....in future you should always stop reading at "Sportsmail understands.....". [FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]

Well I am pleased you agree that it was a blatant handball. I have stated elswhere that the linesman should have helped the referee who was not in a good position for either teh handball or to make a decision on the Wilson challenge. Agreed we defended poorly on the day and you were gifted 3 goals!

Interesting you say stick a leg out you are in trouble. I thought you had 2 blatant penalties at Chelsea when either Suarez or Lucas when a Chelski player brought him down. The second was when Suarez running away from goal was just hauled down by one of the Chelsea forwards. Webb just looked and waved play on. For me that was crass refereeing!

Firstly, Sterling controlled the ball with his arm
Secondly, Wilson got the ball!
