I wasn't that upset about the result last night, it was our performance ( or lack of it)

I know I am going to get pelters for saying this, but---- I can see where people are coming from when we are accused of playing hoofball, it was almost as if the defence had had a falling out with the midfield and by passed them every time and this has been going on for the last few games
Chambers and Hyam had another bad game their passing was awful and as for Mcgoldrick, we'll he should be dropped and give someone else a go

But what really saddened me was the realisation that there are very few (if any) of our players who are good enough to play in the premiership. I know that championship teams are not made up of premiership players but if we do go up we would need a complete new team
I have been feeling uneasy about our performances for some time but we kept getting results
But we have to get the ball on the ground and play through the midfield this hoofball has to stop
Well that's got that off my chest
Bring on the pelters I suppose
 
Totally agree but this boring brand of football has been successful up til recently!!
If we did go up, we would need at least 6 new players!! Most of defence and gk are ok, midfield is weak and other than Bish/Bru, it would need a big overhaul!!
No pelters from me, hopefully a few will be brought in during this window!!
Come on MM/ME, freshen things up and get the place buzzing again!!
 
The past 2 matches have been as drab as any over the past 2 years. Smith and Chambo have always have suspect distribution but were below that level in both recent matches. Chambo shouldn't be playing at RB in my opinion. We seem to be trying to put square pegs in round holes with that particular position.

One big thing we have learnt though is that Hyam (for all our want and expectation) is simply not good enough when we are in possession. I rate the guy but his confidence on the ball makes him look like bambi on ice at times and stray passes and hopeful humps forward were killing any possible rhythm we were attempting to gain.

One massive factor over the past 2 matches has been the lack of invention in the final third. The Bish is clearly a good player but without JW it is clear that McG is having to almost cover 2 roles in the team. With JW we had an additional ball carrier who could commit defenders, leaving Murph and McG to occupy the penalty area, without JW it's obvious McG is having to drop deep and try to influence play but only has Murph in front of him, which is making the (effective) service to either of them in very short supply. Which is why both (but in particular Murph) are looking shattered.

You're very fortunate to be playing Millwall at the weekend, mind you if you put in a display like last night even they'll give you a game !
 
We were always going to have another blip! You cant go on winning and I think tiredness and fatigue has taken its toll on our squad. We have bounced back before and I see no reason why we wont again so please have some perspective on things! <ok>

Warky, not sure what your on about, nobody is exactly going mad about the blip, just pointing out what they think is required, actually think everone is keeping things in perspective!! We have been poor in the last few games, yes the opposition have been good but that doesnt stop you from being able to pass to a team mate and retain the ball. If there is fatigue there, then that shows even more why we need a few in, to freshen things up and give competition!!
 
precisely warky, and look at it like this, we have just played 2 decent teams, in **** conditions and how many real chances have we given them in the 180 minutes?

If anything this will probably bring the squad closer together.

I'll reserve my judgement after the next two games.
I said in a previous post, that the next 2-3 games will be crucial to shaping our season (including last nights game) - not so much for the points, but for the performances. If we fail to beat either Millwall or Brighton, then i can serioulsy see us freefalling down the table. If we get a minimum of 4 points against those two, then i will be a lot more confident that we'll finish at least in the play offs. I know the league is not won in January, but we are now entering a crucial period. Our next 8 games are all winnable on paper (Fulham away being the most difficult) but then we have a very difficult run of fixtures in March. I honestly can't see the squad we currently have grinding out results for the whole season, it's phyically impossible. Some players need a rest, and some need to be dropped, with McGoldrick being the first.
I don't buy all this not spending any money malarky...other top teams are getting in reinforcements, and if we want to maintain our positive position, then we really need to attract good players, and if that means spending some money, then so be it. This is our best chance in years to finally get promoted, and i really hope we don't flush it down the toilet because Mick and ME are too stubborn to get fresh faces.

Guru, conditions are same for both sides but i guess if you play hoofball, the wind will be a big factor and not cause as many problems for a team that plays the ball on the deck, thus causing us more problems!!
 
I don't think we should get to despondent, we have just played two of the best teams we will meet this season and only lost by the odd goal to both and with a few more friendly decisions from the officials things may have been different. We did though look tired and short of ideas and I think this week has proved a few things we already knew, 1 Chambers is not a very good right back, 2 Hyam just does not have the composure on the ball to mix it against good midfield opposition, 3 Mings is a better left back than Parr, 4 Ambrose and S Hunt are OK but can't last for 90 minutes and 5 McGoldrick looks disillusioned and disinterested, is he sulking because he has not been amongst the goals or because he didn't get a transfer to the prem, either way someone needs to sort him out as he is becoming a passenger. Our only two decent midfielders are Bishop and Bru and please don't suggest Skuse as he would have just made things worse if he had been there

I agree with most of that Anglian but I will take issue with you on Skuse! He is our lynch pin in Midfield allowing our attacking players license to get forward. Hyam simply doesn't do it and isn't as good in the holding role. Skuse is very much maligned but we play better as a team when he is in it because he is unflappable and can complete most of his passes whereas Hyam just keeps giving it away, Our 3 best midfielders weren't available last night and we aren't strong enough in numbers to cover these positions.

Skuse has takenn some stick from all of us this season,mainly for playing sideways or backwards but he is the one that does the dirty work. We do miss him when he's out,agree with Warky there,he's our lynchpin. Hyam,despite all the promise isn't delivering the goods,,personally not sure on Bru yet either.

Good point regarding Skuse, he's a solid yet unspectacular player. I guess the argument is, especially in wake of last night's disjointed performance, is that we need that type of player in the middle. I doubt he'd be cut out at a Premier League level, but I think Hyam needs to be dropped, if only in the hope he uses it to better himself. I think Kevin Bru is a decent player, he has a good range of passing, and arguably kept the ball the best out of our midfield players against Southampton.
 
I think the weather conditions did have a massive impact on our last two games especially with our "style".

That said we should have a plan b approach when this is the case. Both Southampton and Derby struggled too, but were more comfortable passing the ball in midfield, therefore edging it.

Hopefully the wind will die down for the weekend.
