He is an over age player in the U21 team, but as the team were playing in an EFL Trophy game, it counts as a first team appearance (I think).

Makes sense. For some reason Wikipedia has it down as a U21 appearance. Not that I'd trust wiki to be correct of course.

Possibly, now that I think about it, many have either been loaned out or released.

This most definitely, on a general note, even through the bad times in the seventies and eighties I spend a fair few fishing seasons in Ireland and I was always welcomed and never had a bad moment. I cannot say that about North of the border.
