.. on the other hand,
The gulf as we keep saying is massive, so anyone really think they'd set the PL alight? Arguably Delap has actually.
Delap, Greaves, Philogene, Carvahlo have all played, and continued to be selected to play, plenty of games for PL clubs this season, so are by definition PL players.
Morton has been injured for most of it hasn't he (but still made 5 cup appearances)?
So yes, 5 PL players. Add the likes of Tufan and Seri at similar level (but other end of career).
That's 7 at that level. Not bad for a Championship side.
Am I missing anyone else?

Whats your point?

It is pretty tiring this constant rhetoric of overplaying how good the team was last season

The one thing i will back walter up on is how difficult it is when you have so many new players
Same with last season and january
Its not fantasy football or ultimate team fifa ****

Teams need time to develop together especially young players

Realistically our team was not even close to the level of leeds or southampton last season

Im curious where greaves goes from here
I dont think theres much learning he can do in the champ
Maybe ipswish will win promotion next season again

And on how many games last season did those 5 actually play together?

Tufan and Seri were nowhere near Premier League players. Might as well say we’ve got a Premier League player this season in Amrabat if you’re including those two!

Think greaves is great positonally, a beast in the air and awareness

His big weakness especially at prem level is when his 1 v 1 defending
He gets turned in and out
To be honest I think Hughes is better than Greaves.

Possibly has a higher ceiling, but it's still potential at the moment.Reminnds me a lot of Greaves a couple of years ago tbh.

He has a raking pass and more threat from set pieces than Greaves, but he still needs to cut out some silly errors -usually gets away with them but that's what'll take him to the next level IMHO.

Hughes is good but this is probably a tad of recency bias. Greaves’ ability allowed us to go man to man in a lot of games defensively because he was athletically better than most championship strikers.

I think Hughes could do that but we’ve yet to see it

Ye
Are we forgetting just how good greaves was last 2 seasons

Greaves was ****ing immense beyond belief

He's struggled in the prem against top quality players in 1 v1 but its also ipswich system leaving them so exposed
As he goes high a lot

he was also absolutely a beast in the air at both ends

Actually I'd say that Greaves was less of a consistent attacking threat than Hughes. None of our defenders have shown that much goal threat from set pieces in recent times.

Thats not true
Plus greaves was so good at knocking the ball on inside the opposition box

Not seeing it really. We have been dire at set pieces since league 1.

Always used to drive me nuts seeing Greaves and Jones get their heads on everything coming into our box but be so powderpuff at the other end

He got 6 goals and 6 assists in his last two seasons with us
Im just not sure where or how you can say hughes looks more effective at it

Well he's got 1 in half a season and been unlucky a few times.

But 3 in a season isn't really a great return is it?

I'd usually want 5 or 6 - but maybe that's just an expectation based on oldskool, likes of Gerrard, Delaney, Dewhurst etc.

Maybe it's just heading seems to be less relied on these days due to potential effects in later life. Some clubs don't even do it in training anymore.

To be fair think our lack of quality on set pieces is having nobody who can take them as of late. Even Twine a renowned specialist at them was really inconsistent here
