God I would hate to cross you. There is of course an argument that centuries of colonial rule and exploitation hasn't helped. Nothing is ever black and white there are always shades of grey
It's simple.
I'm old enough to have experienced the wholesale decline, and in places total breakdown in British society, and partially within Bristol itself in my lifetime, and a lot of it is due to unchecked immigration, which is a direct result of appalling government decisions and bad monitoring by authorities.
Successive governments, and loony local authorities have turned a blind eye to what had been going on, and finally woke up way too late, when it finally sank in, we had areas of entire British cities speaking no English, and religious hatred being preached on our streets. Why have we allowed British schools not to teach English as the primary language ? It's absolutely insane !!!
I was working the evening of the St Pauls riots and had to drive past overturned police cars that were on fire and mob rule on the streets. People were armed with sticks, stones and anything else they could lay their hands on. I was 22 at the time. Of course the black folk will complain it was all down to police persecution, despite the fact that places such as the Black & White Café was a known and huge drugs den, and St Paul was full of racketeering and prostitution at the time.
I could go on, but you get the point.
And talking of colonial rule. For some reason, we are also seemingly trying to expunge our part in the Slave Trade from the history books. Whilst none of us should be proud of it, trying to erase it isn't the answer either.
Like the Holocaust or the Great Fire of London it happened whether we like it or not, but being in total denial from figures in authority on this and many other subjects, has been the catalyst for a lot of what is wrong here and now.
