Yes, let's express our love for the perpetrators of this horror.
Everyone just saying how sorry they are and offering condolences is rather facile.
I don't think OLM is saying that that we should love the perpetrators.
Having said that, I think it is reasonable to discuss what can be done in a calm way. Unfortunately, others seem to take this as an opportunity to attack people for their "lack of understanding" and try to make out they are superior because all they want to do is react after the event and explain to the terrorists that she shouldn't be doing what they are doing. Quite simply, I don't think this is a sufficient response. When people come up with sensible responses and people who are promoting their "understanding" cannot effectively counter their ideas they respond by giving the impression that their opponents have said something they didn't say and attack that. These people's comments are totally worthless because their who way of thinking is based on lies.

It's calm in Lyon

We can all try and make sense of these events and what it means to society. There is no quick fix, only a move towards global equality. Where will this come from? Education
There's plenty of areas in the world that are relatively equal and they still go round killing each other. I don't think equality and education is the answer. We have to do more to stop terrorist attacks in a practical way.

No I don't. That was more of a longer term view... but right now..

French PM has announced it was an "act of war by IS"

Therein lies one answer - religious fascism

at the end of the day, there's no point in discussing with these people
It's shocking that there are people like Fez who do think that discussing it with these people is the solution. He also says that it's nothing to do with religion.

Your comments bring shame on you. Most people seem to be responsible on here but you are obviously using the terrorist attacks as an excuse to attack people. You should think about your behaviour.

I look back on yours and don't have to. You and two others fell into a mist of supportive bigotry and hate, you tried to use political jousting to condone it. It hasn't been deleted, it should have been, but it can still be read.

It seems a bit twee to simply offer my sympathies to all affected, but I have no idea what else to say.

I haven't had chance to look at what's gone on, and looking at this and a few other bits on the web, I've no real wish to. Their actions have largely drawn absolute condemnation and hardened resolve.

What I can't get my head round is, what do these people expect the outcome to be? What precisely are their demands?
They want to create ill feeling towards the vast majority of everyday Muslims, with the intention of them being shunned by society. When these average Muslims are treated this way, suddenly all the terrorist propoganda doesn't sound too far away from how they feel. This is how they recruit.

It wouldn't work if people would realize that it's a small small minority of people who do this stuff, and didn't look to blame and victimise everyone who happens to have the same skin colour.

Please give one example that supports your statement that I displayed bigotry and hate.

this is just so so sad.
Normal people enjoying themselves.
RIP to all those killed.
Thoughts are with the bereaved families today.

How do you stop someone who is willing to blow themselves up for what they believe in, or have been brainwashed to believe in?

****ing ****s

There has to be more electronic surveillance

If you look at some of the videos on theync.com you can see how brutal some people can be. Some people do nasty things as a result of crime or relationship issues but some simply want to kill people in the most despicable way in the name of their religion. Obviously that doesn't apply to everybody who are members of the same religion but we shouldn't ignore it and just ask them nicely and then let them get on with it. Similarly, some countries have methods of execution and punishment that are not acceptable in the West. I don't think simply asking them to stop is sufficient. From what you said earlier you seem to think that is all we should do. Can you confirm that? If not, what else do you think we should do?

You have made your agenda crystal clear, you have made sweeping assumptions about what I think, you are very, very selective in what you pick out of context. I don't feel I have anything to explain to you as I have expressed myself clearly and fairly; if you wish to take me up on specifics then quote them accurately and I will respond accordingly. For instance, where have you seen me say that all I think we should do is ask them to stop? Do you think creating a lie is a good way to encourage conversation, if not then why do you do it?

Is that possible to have that on every street corner?
Even if you do get anywhere near them, they press the button and wipe out everyone close to them.
You don't need it on street corners.
These people don't wear primed vest all the time. You listen in on them when they are discussing or preparing for attacks and get them before they are wearing them - if possible.

Gotcha
Sounds so easy when you put it like that

When I said: “So what do you think the West should do about stoning women for adultery or amputation for other crimes?”
Your reply was: “Live our lives, follow our beliefs, maintain our laws and work to convince others of where we believe they are wrong.”
You seem to be saying that if they don't agree with us we should let them carry on with these disgusting acts.
