I'm not too fussed on this striker lark. Strikers cost a fair bit of money and I doubt we'd get a decent one for cheap, same with CB. I'd rather spend big on a solid CB, and we just don't have the money to splash out on both. Defense is priority, so I'd rather we go for a CB than a striker.

All those who think Best has been poor all season are clueless twats.

He may not have scored but for a decent run of games at the start of the season, he played well with the team, linked up very well with Ba and got assists also. He did a good job.

Dont call me a twat thank you, I'm entitled to my opinion and that is that Best is too slow, too static and has too poor a touch to be a starting striker for a club the size of Newcastle. Wash your mouth out boy

I dont see Best as a scapegoat he's just coming back from injury again but when fit he has to step up and stop getting offside.

Shola is not good enough to lead the line so he's a no brainer as main striker. HBA and Best for me to lead the line when Ba goes off to AON.

I want to see HBA start against the bindippers, but it wont happen.

Vertonghen and Cissokho. That would be some combination to add to our ranks. Whether we have that kind of cash is another thing altogether of course. Therefore a Taiwo loan would seem more realistic. I'd prefer we bought though. We're on the cusp of having a really good squad.

Yep dont want to go down the mackem road of loaning 5 players

Doubt we'd straight loan. Doesn't seem to be our way these days. If it was a loan, it'd likely be a loan to buy which would suit me

so worried pardew will be his usual stubborn self and play 442 :( best and shola just wont work against any team who keeps the ball on the ground 90 percent of the time our style really does not lean to a 442 anymore a creative midfield is what we need!

I see Best has become the scapegoat now. Pathetic from some of our fans to be quite honest, football is a game played over seasons, not a couple of matches. Leon has a couple of poor games and now all of a sudden he's 'crap' 'useless' and all the rest of it. Best has put in some terrific performances, putting in great shifts despite not scoring much. You never know, Best/HBA could prove to be a very balanced partnership.

As long as he doesn't get injured I think Leon can hold down the fort while Demba's gone, and we've got Shola for backup. Not ideal but we're in a better position there than in centre back where if we lose one we're right up **** creek. Besides Pardew could be keeping his cards close, Ferguson has said he isn't buying any players in Jan but I don't believe him for an instant.
So much this, so much this! Best needs dropping to recover proprely from his injury but the talent we saw at Fulham earlier in the season is still there.

Great News,

Looks like we'll have to sign two more centre backs and play 6-4-0. Play for 0-0s every single game.

Doesnt fill you with much confidence coming up to January considering we're losing Demba Ba for the AcON

Best and HBA should do the trick imo.

Best doesn't do much when he's partnered with Ba as he tends to act as a support striker and, to be honest, gets outshadowed a lot. It can't do much for his confidence.

He needs to be the main man working with HBA, and then I think he can get back to the goalthreat he looked like nearer the start of the season whilst Ba was finding his feet.

My main worry is the lack of any other players scoring goals. In fact, I'd be amazed if any other team in the league has had so few non-striking players score goals in direct play. IN FACT, has there even been anyone full stop? I can't recall anybody.

Edit: The only one I can think of now is Gosling.

The optimism in this thread is being wonderfully labelled as "realism"... Just like every bloody window, we're all content to narrow our aims and accept "Uncle Mike" has the club's best interests at heart and that we will sign a couple of <insert area lacking in cover>... Hands in his pockets my arse.

I don't know what drugs some of you are on (except Acid-Hippo, of course) or whether you're still high on the Christmas spirit, but there is no way that January will bring good news... Come on, we've had enough transfer windows with this guy to know what he's capable of, and it isn't multi-million pound investment.

If we sign a player, you can bet we won't be keeping all of our assets.

The sad thing for me is that everyone on here is so busy laughing at Mandy's price tag, they've forgotten that it's not been re-invested as promised...

As highlighted already, we have the foundation of an exceptional team (not decent or good), shame we have Ashley as owner.

If HBA gets crocked though we'll be more ****ed than a mackem lasses gash!

How does the Maiga deal ****ing up mean we aren't in for a striker? How long does it take to do a deal? The Carroll deal was dealt with pretty quickly if I remember rightly, the Maiga deal was obviously sabotaged.

This! have to agree and I'm not expecting much come the end of January. Call me a cinic but I've seen enough windows to know it'll be the same old story.

With this attitude towards signings we'll never challenge for the CL. We have a paper thin squad and we need depth in the squad and a better average quality of player. Shola and Lover have been good servants to the club but they aren't good enough to play for a PL club, we need young, talented players like De Jong or Giroud. The higher-ups have to get out of the mindset that we should invest only when desperately needed.

Agreed, to Shola/Lova add Perch/Guthrie/Williamson/Simpson. Canny lads but more Wigan than Newcastle ( wtf was Zog thinking then!!!)
