When the new owners came in, a new sense of optimism seemed to come with it. Well, it hasn't taken long for it to disappear.

People are constantly abusing the owners, and now the players are getting turned on.

Before Stewart Donald came in, the club was in decline for many years before, and you'd have to go back many years before that to find our last period of major success.

What do people expect, Donald to wave a magic wand, and the poison is immediately wiped out, and we are back in the premier league and going on to fight for trophies?

Pompey were in the premier league, Europe and fa cup winners not too long ago, now they are in the same position as us. Why? Because they weren't run properly, like us... and just like us they are rebuilding, and has it taken time? Yes!

Our fans need to get back on side, and start actually supporting this club rather than abusing it. Understand that it's a journey and be prepared to go with it.

Because if our fans are on side, the journey will be quicker and the club will flourish.

Our key advantage at Sunderland is our support, so let's use it rather than it being our disadvantage, because that's where it's heading.

Where do you suggest we look for positives then mate?

I say this as someone who’s fully stood up for owners and players until the last week or so.

We are human, we love the club, it’s very difficult to draw on your reserves of positivity when nobody has done a shop and filled the fridge for 6 years.

Worst of all, they are wasting our best opportunity to restore our Championship status with the extra resources (parachute payments) we have had as a recently relegated PL club. They haven't just not put money in, they've actively taken money out of our budget for this season, despite that window rapidly closing to make use of our advantage.

Instead, we are being run as a top half of League One side that temporarily happens to have £15m more in revenue than any other club in the division, with bang average players and no sense that we are going 'all out' or even pushing the upper limit of our means or taking any calculated risks at all to achieve something that would benefit the club and the owners enormously.

We've supported the lads through so much **** over the years, it's about time the club gave something back ffs. Portsmouth may be in the same position but you've said yourself the fans had their day in glory, what the **** have we had? Defeat after defeat after relegation after relegation. Now we find ourselves getting pumped 3-0 by poxy Scunthorpe. We've cheered these bastards on forever and it's got us no where, so dont start pointing the finger at fans because we've finally had enough of being ran like a ton pot club. When the new owners first arrived they appeared to be refreshing in their approach. I heard them speak at a charity event and was encouraged by what I heard. I now see (whether correct or not) a rot setting in, a team struggling, division 1 being seem to be accepted and owners who indicated that they could fund us through the Championship appearing to be cash strapped and sadly looking out of their depth.

Whilst I'm hardly jumping for joy atm, at least PP is getting the opportunity to assess his squad and formations without damaging our league position during this poxy run of mainly cup games. Given we have no league game this week it was correct of him to pick a near full strength team last night so he can see for himself how much work needs to be done to turn us around. Hopefully he'll be using all this as ammunition to go back to the board and demand some movement in the January window. Even more hopefully we'll be in a position to make moves as early as possible to get us back on track as quickly as possible when the transfer window opens. We're still not adrift - far from it - and with a run of 6 league games in January we need to keep in touch between now and Christmas and then try to kick on. As far as the fans as concerned, we still have a 30k (or thereabouts) average, still sell our away allocations and still don't get on the managers back. The fans are the least of the clubs worries - for now.

But whose fault is it that the shine came off?
It wasnt the fans. He appointed ross who was way under talented and under experienced for the role. Not only that he kept him 6-12 mths longer than he should. Him not the fans. He hired coton and hill..not the fans.
Between ross, hill, Coton and donald we have ended up with an unfit underperforming pile of 5hit players. No matter how many fans turn up and how loud they shout YOU CANT POLISH A TURD!
Who decided maja could go for 1.5m and then replace him with a striker who cant score, is on more money and has no resale value and cost 3m rising to 4m? Not the fans.

When did donald spend/lose 200m of his own money on safc. I doubt he has spent 2m of his own money up to now. Loans ( loaded onto our balance sheet ) and parachute payments. But hey yeah he's a great bloke, he gets us ya knaa.

I posted on another thread that after nearly 60 years of following Sunderland my enthusiasm is finally waning.

It is starting to look like we may not get promoted this season and 3 years in the turd division is too much.

The decline and fall of a great club is very sad for fans... I will never support another club...but...going to matches (season ticket holder atm) may come to an end.

Still we could have an amazing 2nd half of the season and a very successful January transfer window.. fingers crossed

I get what you’re saying and largely agree but I’d say that(on here at least) the reaction has been fairly muted considering our situation and the fact that last night the best team we could field got beat 3-0 by a team in the bottom half of div 4. Granted the score line was skewed by two late goals and we should have had a penalty early on but we didn’t really look like scoring and it’s hard to see where the goals are coming from to get us off on our ‘winning run’.

I'm torn. I feel frustrated that I can't really go at SD and CM because they literally saved our club and took a chance on us when we could have completely imploded.

I think it's obvious now that they're a couple of chancers who have seen a golden opportunity and tried to blag it. I can't really blame them for that tbh. The football decisions have been atrocious, though. Our signings have been terrible, we wasted that money on Grigg when anybody could see he was way overpriced and overrated. I think potentially the biggest thing he is ****ing up with is handing so much running to Tony Coton. What has he ever done in the football world or at Sunderland that is giving him this luxury? If he's had a hand in the player and manager signings that speaks volumes.

I see people are still bashing Jack Ross for reasons unknown. He came to a club that was on its knees with a big dark cloud over it. He stopped the slump, took us to a final and had us 90 mins away from promotion. The fact that a handful of our fans somehow think he's been one of our worst managers shows that we do have an issue with some supporters being impossible to please as they're aways looking to stick the boot into us.
