Jimmy Binks went to Riley High School at the Boulevard and left in 1952. At the time he played wicket-keeper for Hull No. 2 cricket team. I was at RHS from 1949 to 1956.
Hi Yardley. My husband who was a classmate of yours from 1950 to 1956 notes that Jimmy Binks held every batting record at Riley except one. He never achieved an innings of 50 runs. That record was held by my husband who scored 52 not out in the under 12's/13's. His cricket career, however,went South at a great rate of knots from that point!
They're good shots, I didn't realise there was so much of it left, I'll have to go and have a nosey.
Looks to me like it would be an ideal area for re-development!! Has anyone thought of that?
Looks like a great place for a city park. Restore what is left, clean it up put some historical signs around, make a walking path or two, and a kids jungle gym. Would seem sad to simply let it decay more than it has already.
Didn't know Jimmy Binks went to Riley. I seem to recall Alan Hardaker (former FL Chairman(?) and the guy who's idea it was to have a League Cup) went to RHS also. I went to the most recent version of Riley High on Alliance Ave/Parkfield Drive (sadly recently bulldozed) between 64 and 71.
As an east Hull lad it was Riley's proximity to BP that started my love affair with City.
Thanks for this one OLM, and Golaccio for the video. I can't wait to show this one to my Dad. I'm sure he'll know about this pre BP ground. He turned 88 last week and still doing well and showing great interest in City's fortunes.
He took me to my first game at BP. It was against Sunderland, 1974 I think - the year they beat Leeds in the FA Cup final? We lost 2 - nil I think.
My Nana and Grandad lived near the end of Airmyn Avenue (I think that's how it's spelt). I seem to recall that the street backed up on to an open field that we walked across to get to the ground.
Unfortunately we didn't stay in England nearly as long as I would have wanted, and returned to Australia. Nonetheless, the great memories linger and I'm sure my Dad will get a great kick out of these pics. This forum can be a gem sometimes!

It's a bit unfortunate for that City side in that video i posted. The film maker for Pathe said they were good and had a decent future in the game. Pity that was filmed few years before WW2 started.
