For what its worth, I think this relegation has been one too many for quite a few fans. I was back in the UK recently and speaking with guys who, in the past, would never dream of missing a game, regardless what division we are in.. have now pretty much given up. Very sad state of affairs. Its like the very heart and soul have been ripped out. I said at the beginning of this season we would struggle given the pi55 poor squad we have assembled, I had no clue we would struggle as much. So those fans who endure the current crop of players have every right to decide how early they leave the stadium., the fact they went in the first place is testimony how lucky SAFC are to have these people..but the younger hooligan element should pi55 off, they have no part of this football club, they are an embarrassment to the town and the club.

I stopped going to the match a few years ago because I was sick of the lack of ambition from the top and the lack of effort from some players. I miss the buzz of match day but don't miss the toxic atmosphere or the feelings of anger.

Not far fetched at all. A few years ago one of the Boro fans came to the derby dressed as a Newcastle fan and punched a horse just to embarrass us. Utter ****s.

I wouldn't hold hope for Allardyce coming back if I were you, I suspect he'd rather stick his hand in a wood chipper then come back to Sunderland, under Short that is.

Grayson will be fine it's just going to take time and like I think it was Bri said, it's a learning process for him too. I don't think he'll be using the formation from yesterday again in a hurry.

Sheffield United striker Clayton Donaldson appeared to be struck by a bottle during Saturday's 2-1 win at Sunderland
Sunderland are investigating claims that a Sheffield United player was struck by a bottle thrown from the stands during Saturday's Sky Bet Championship clash.
The Black Cats have confirmed they are aware of the allegation and are awaiting the outcome of an investigation into events at the Stadium of Light.
It is understood referee Jeremy Simpson, who picked up what appeared to be a plastic bottle and handed it to the fourth official, has indicated that he will include the incident in the report he submits to the Football Association.

The club are reviewing CCTV footage in an effort to identify whoever threw the object.

Not going to comment on the bottle throwing. But I find it hard to criticise any other Sunderland fan as I have Sat with them through this period of utter decay. Yes the atmosphere is poisonous but that's been cultivated by years of failure by everyone but them. Any dig at the fans is "holier than thou" and massively misguided Imo.

Totally agree with the bold but I think the media and disgruntled fans may force an unwelcome situation -
BSA coming back maybe when we no longer come up Short and have new owner - or hopefully never as SG will have us flying.

No way - Galloway (I don't rate him by the way especially not at LB) but at one point Saturday he had the ball and had 3 players around him - not a single midfielder came to give him an out ball so he punted it and it hit one of the 3 surrounding him - all Galloway's fault - no blame for anyone else.

We scapegoat people so easily without looking at the reasons for failings - Galloway against Leeds was tortured when McGeady was in front of him - as McGeady didn't help.

Grayson swapped McGeady and Honeyman and Leeds hardly got back down the right as Honeyman puts the miles in and helps out his defender.

Saturday I thought the 3 debutants looked OK - Williams was busy and McManaman made a big difference when he came on.

Grabban looked pretty much like Khazri has for us all season! Totally "I'm not arsed as I don't play here, just want to get back to Bournemouth"

Truly hope that those who go on Tuesday get behind the team

Yeah but you're gathering everybody up as a collective. In my OP I made the point at the end to separate the decent fans. We're not all one person and I don't want myself or the decent fans going down with the coin tossers' ships, at the same time acting all ignorant and refusing to condem anybody when they're doing that sort of **** removes your defence when a fan of another club comes and tars us all with the same brush.

Now wrong with saying our good fans are good fans and our bad ones are bad ones and it's certainly ok to condemn those who rain coins from the back of the stands and throw things onto the pitch imo.

Well you know me fella, I have my own uninvited clan of sad sacks looking to jump on out I say. Coin tossers are scum as far as I'm concerned.

Edit: Paperback Ruiter isn't one of these sad sacks but think he knows that. But thought I'd better make that clear.

Due to my geographical disadvantages (living in the south-east), I don't get to many home games. I mainly go to away games and I always think our fans give a decent account of themselves for the most part.

When I do go to home games, and what I often see on the telly, I get the impression that confidence is extremely brittle amongst a lot of our players. I've felt this has been the case for several years now. At least since the Bruce era. It seems to be the same amongst our fans because after the first misplaced pass or missed tackle, people start getting anxious and criticising players.

Surely most fans have played the game to a sufficient level (i.e. at any level at all) to know that shouting and hollering at people after a minor mistake is not helpful. I watch several other clubs occasionally at a variety of levels and don't see this to the same extent anywhere else. It might be because I'm more aware of it at Sunderland because it means something to me, but often these days I think the concept, that the media likes to portray, that North East football fans are knowledgeable fans is a myth. Sad really.

As has been said on this thread, the recent additions may be regretting coming to us. Worryingly, if the trend of booing continues, and players talk to other players and word gets around about what it's like to play at SOL,, then in future it could be difficult to attract players to a club which already finds it hard to appeal. Some ''supporters'' need to look at how they are even making the future and growth more difficult than we already know it's going to be.

It makes us look like the worst supporters going when we chant "you're not fit to wear the shirt" at the entire team, quite a few of them having only played a handful of games or making their debut. Wilson must have thought "bloody hell, why did I sign for these again?"

The players last season deserved it arguably but this bunch need nurturing and encouragement or (a portion of) our own fans will steadily chip away at their confidence until they barely want to play for us at all.

I agree about Galloway btw, not saying he's mint but he has the same problem that PVA did for a while, no support and gets piled on by the opposition.
