Getting rid of VAR would mean accepting officials aren’t perfect.

What does strike me is that 1966 linesman didn’t look too svelte did he, and was wearing enormous beetlecrusher boots. He was up with play though, which is more than most that come to Home Park are.

Did the cross from a corner or open play? I can’t remember although we all must have seen it a thousand times.

Crossed from the centre circle to Alan Ball on the right wing....who swung it towards the near post and Geoff Hurst spun on it and rifled it over the keepers up stretched hands and it hit the underside of the cross bar.....***...and the lovely Russian linesman said it crossed the line....cough...cough.
 
MADE IN CORNWALL.

On holiday in Cornwall this week....it seemed appropiate to invest in a case of St Austell Brewery Cornish Best...described as "a moreish, Sessionable, ale that's bursting with character"....The marketing was rounded off with a label featuring Cornish sky, sea and beaches.....surely making this drink the perfect sundowner to enjoy while admiring the seascape over Cawsand Bay.

My enjoyment was a tad diminished ...however ...when I read the back label, which stated that Cornish Best is actually brewed in Warmley, south Gloucestershire.

I found that very strange as I've twice toured the St Austell Brewery site, which is next door to my old school, although it's now a comprehensive. And yes, they do give out samples!

What I didn't know is that St Austell Brewery acquired Bath Ales in 2016, hence the Gloucester address, and that they also have a distribution relationship with Healey's Cider.

Via Cornish brewing and the national origins of Iceland, I remember what I came on here to say.

Wayne Rooney has a column in the Sunday Times! I'm not quite sure how long for but I presume it'll be in the Sports section.
 
The forest near our home has been taken over by homes being built.
so our bears are in and around our homes looking for food.
we have been told not put our bins out until mornings.
Its normal now to see the bears roaming the streets.
Such a shame that us humans have screwed things up..
One of the cubs was in our back garden last night just sniffing around.
i know i shouldnt of but i threw him some apples..he just sat there happily eating his tea..
 
I expect you don't get to many cats and dogs wandering around at night.

Disappointing that you've lost some forest to housing....but you do have the odd tree or two still left over.....not like over here where building on green sites is nearly impossible.

Council taxes (or the equivalent over there) need adjusting to compensate for having to share your dustbin with a bear or two.......maybe the bears need to put in a claim for loss of forest.

Look out for Wednesday 26th June BC.....when 2024/25 fixture list comes out at 9am UK time.
 
I don’t think democracy is good for us.

My blood boiled last week when the BBC blithely referred to a major UK company making “gigantic” profits. No explanation, no actual statement that there was anything unusual or wrong about it.

Huge companies make huge profits and small companies make small profits. You only have problem if huge companies make small profits or small companies make huge profits. It’s all about proportionality.

The Lib Dems need money to fund their spending plans so they’ve revived the idea of a levy on banks. It’s a great idea politically as it gives them money to spend and it’s being taken from a group of entities that are unpopular so it’s a vote winner.

Similarly, the Labour Party is planning to ban the “carry” arrangements that allow the British private equity sector to be a world leader.

Unfortunately, the UK’s wealth is dominated by the financial services sector and post-Brexit, it’s already struggling to maintain its position as the largest in Europe and a very significant player world wide. We are no longer the manufacturer to the world, we’re its banker. Use it as a political cash-cow at our peril.

Looking forward to the Fixtures ..time to think Argyle again.
Once again Mr Bear was looking in our back door.
There is a Mother and 3 cubs in the area so far they are not a problem.
 
Cannot compete with the Bears BC......all we get is one tabby Cat...two Squirrels...a Fox.....and Mr & Mrs Robin keeping an eye on this years little offsprings.
 
Well..... this climate change thing needs to make its mind up.

One degree above freezing in one part of Scotland yesterday before dawn.....and a sprinkling of snow as well.

Here in NW Kent..... Monday was rain-sun-rain-sun... alternating all day with a chilly breeze that made things uncomfortable.

This morning (Wednesday)...the room thermostat suggested the indoor temperature was 59F....and if the heating had been turned on it would have been blasting out.

One good point is that the grass isn't growing to quickly because of a lack of warmth.
 
Record numbers of voters are disillusioned with politics with the largest grouping Leave voters who voted Conservative for the first time at the last election.

So this is the group who believed what they were told by the Leave campaign despite ample evidence to the contrary. Now they are surprised we’re poorer having left with reduced influence in the world?

This is the group who mistook Boris Johnson for a statesman not a self-interested charlatan?

This is the group that continues to mistake Nigel Farage for a statesman not a self-interested charlatan?

I despair.
 
Posted a greetings card yesterday....put a first class stamp on the envelope for quicker delivery.....posted it in time to catch the 6pm collection the last one of the day.

BUT not anymore it seems....the post box now says that the last post of the day....and only collection time of the day is now 9am.

So my first class envelope will stay in the post box on a normal business day for 16hrs before being collected (posted it at 5pm).....weekends the collection time is midday on the Saturday only......so it is possible on a business day you could have a first class envelope lingering in the box for literally 24hrs.

I thought that first class envelopes where expected to be delivered in 24hrs.

So I looked up what the PO says about first and second class mail deliveries.

They say that normally there is no difference....unless it is a busy day and then they prioritise the first class mail.

They also say that.......1st class is intended to be delivered in 24 hrs or the next business day......2nd class mail between 1 and 3 business days.

Now wonder they're going bust and being sold off to a Czech billionaire.

Most bulky things I purchase online arrive very quickly by courier service and they generally tell you when it is leaving the supplier....when it is in the hands of the courier service and literally to the hour when it will be delivered....and finally they photograph it when handed to you.or put in your safe place.

So 24hr delivery for first class mail is just another joke....just like all the election manifestos that are going the rounds at the moment.

My letter has just finished its first 16 hrs of PO care and should now be in a sack on the way to a sorting office hopefully within its 24 hr life with the PO.

PS......It'll never make Durham and be delivered within 24hrs....I'm dead sure of that.
