After being bored of all the build up, I really enjoyed the show, fantastic. Considering that it had to appeal to the world, they still did a good job of essentially putting on a British show. Well done. I'm a little surprised that Boyle got the gig, quite bold really.

On the subject of the Beatles, whilst I like them and appreciate their influence, I actually prefer the Kinks. Great social commentaries on Britishness. I also love the fact that they didn't really bother with America, as they refused to sort out their gappy teeth which would of (apparently) offended the american audience!

Totally agree with that, Ray Davis made some really clever tunes back in the day. I like the way he takes you on a little journey with the lyrics.

Sadly from the Mirror, but for whoever was asking what the foreigners thought:

Not so much "what foreigners thought" as "what a couple of foreign journalists thought".

"Los Angeles Times sports writer Diane Pucin said: "For the life of me, though, am still baffled by NHS tribute at opening ceremonies. Like tribute to United Health Care or something in US.""

Sorry to bore you with one of the most important and successful features of our recent history you dim bitch.

I assume I can say this without fear of being lambasted. The Beatles weren't very good, neither is Paul McCartney.

You assumed wrong *lambastes you*

On the subject of the Kinks, I really love the song Waterloo Sunset. They played it after the final whistle at the Ricoh today. Made up for playing the Spice Girls and the Wanted (twice!) <laugh>

As for the ceremony itself, I thought it was really good. Loved the industrial revolution bit.

Ahh, the industrial revolution. Brings back great memories of a Victoria-led British Empire dominating the globe.

Anyone else think we should run a skit similar to the James Bond one in the Opening Ceremony? Have Adkins and Cortese parachute into the Etihad to the Bond music before the kick-off.

No mention of the invading, looting, killing and plundering of other countries in our fantastic history?

I'm pretty sure no Olympic opening (or closing) ceremony in history has mentioned the host nation's invading, looting, killing and/or plundering of other countries, though I could be wrong.

Yeah, but, y'know, it'd be pretty pointless if we got dicked 10-0.

No one has mentioned the brilliant Frank Turner, although he was technically pre-opening ceremony. Also, one hugely embarrassing thing - the GB outfits. Talk about chavvy! If they were a on street gang from Chicago or somewhere, fair enough but, honestly, shell suits with gold bits. Terrible. And talking of McCartneys, weren't they designed by Stella?
