Offensive, no? I doubt Bernard Manning has ever had 600 people walk out of his show at one time. TBF I'll give him his dues, Manning is skilled at drawing guffaws from the 'I'm not racist, but' crowd. Everybody likes to feel validated, I guess.
No, grifter Farage doesn't offend me, I've seen his type come and, thankfully, go. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
Yes please, the huguenot grifting git. That said we'd probably end up with Marine Le Pen. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
A gentle reminder about the no politics rule on here. I realise there are exceptions, but I think most grasp the general principles. Have a read of the thread title and decide if it may, or may not be for you before reading it. One problem with political jokes is that far too often, they get elected.
When BM told jokes that didn't involve race, he was pretty adept at his craft - timing and punchline etc. He performed at a wedding I went to in the mid-90s (where he was obviously strapped for cash as wasn't paid that much and it was before his minor resurgence in popularity before his death) and he'd been specifically told not to be racist, and wasnt, as some of the guests were British Indians and he was funny and worked the crowd well. Made it a running theme that he was going to come out with something racist and then turned it around... I think he found low-hanging fruit racist jokes to be easy for him to write and an ever declining audience to appreciate them. Shame he didn't challenge himself more and aim higher.
Of course the fact is he wasn’t racist as a number of BAME people he knew and worked with have attested.
Watching that is a window into another dimension ,the seventies you had to be there .Colin Compton was reading a Mayfair magazine the other week whilst doing his announcements.
Paul Daniels was making comments to women that would see him under police investigation nowadays. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
He was guest speaker at South Hunsley's Summer Fete one year - either 1979 or 1980. He must have been strapped for cash then an'arll!
