Odd Ronaldo link

We ain't Chelsea and won't just make stupid marque signings so the owners can wave their dicks around like Abramovich did - signing Vernon, Shevchenko, Lukaku, Falcao etc just cos they're world famous. I'd not really heard of Bruno and Isak prior to them signings, but they were obviously players who would make a difference and fit in with the team.

Ronaldo - 38 in a few weeks, stinking attitude that affects all those around him, massive ego and will only sign for astronomical wages....literally everything we don't want.

This entirely. He strikes me as exactly what Howe doesn't want. The major concern for me is that if he were to come I suspect it would be a commercial decision rather than a footballing one and not one Howe would want. That sort of thing can ruin the spirit around the place and set us back years before we've even got going.

Purely commercial deal could work.

Loan him for virtually free (courtesy of Saudi links).

Sell ****loads of NUFC 'Ronaldo' shirts worldwide.

Don't play him (or even let him near the other players).

End of loan.

Ronaldo signs and immediately causes problems and the dressing room goes to ****, results go down the toilet and we end up finishing 8th. Just like at Man U, he ends up on the bench by the end, and Chris Wood comprehensively out scores him. He does another interview with Piers Morgan slagging off Howe, the fans and the club and we send him back to Saudi in the summer.

Anyone wearing a "Ronaldo 7" Newcastle shirt at SJP the next season looks like a ****.

I’m sure that our owners wouldn’t want to spoil what’s happening on the pitch, but our owners have the ultimate decision making ability, which will be influenced by wider business factors. Let’s not forget that Amanda can’t block the big lads in Saudi.
 
Commercially it makes loads of sense - personally don't think its good for anything other than the commercial aspect. Ronaldo sells shirts and adverts and may chip in with a few goals but not much more he'd add to the team.

Short term we could cash in if the terms are good certainly but all it takes is for him to either bring the squad down or start slagging us off anywhere and it's immediately not worth it.

Just my view but when he has a go at Man Utd they're a big enough brand that he doesn't do that much damage but if he did that to us currently we'd laugh it off in this country but in the parts of the world we'd want to be increasing our profile in they'd likely all take CR7's side and it could do far more harm than good to us commercially long term.
 
The only deal I would entertain is a deal where he's only allowed to play one match for us, and that's when we play Man U away at Old Trafford. We bring him on as a last minute sub and the whole of Old Trafford give him deafening abuse.

But sadly we've already played Man U away.

The extra oddity of the proposal (so far as I can tell) is that's it's talking about next season anyway. When he's even older.

Yes, he appears to have pulled a few strings with the Saudis to try to get himself a way into the Champions League next season. He's scared about losing his Champions League scoring record to Messi apparently, and thinks he can get more this way.

Although if we do qualify for the CL, I don't think many would think a 39 year old has been is the key to beating the best in Europe.

That was the first thing I thought when I saw this. I really hope we don't go down that route as it would be completely taking the piss. Not a good look.

Howe also said we're not planning on signing anyone in January unless something happens with the squad .
