    Right I am at home so I can have my say now;

    You say you are not a tory yet most of your comments indicate that you are almost certainly right wing (maybe even further right than the tories) - however that is your perogative as you have pointed out this is a free(ish) country. If you had bothered to read earlier in this thread you would also see that I am dissolusioned with New Labour and do not support them.

    During my working career (41 years) I have worked in Nationalised, Public Sector and Private Sector industries with local,national,multi national, global companies including Unionised and Non Unionised workplaces. I have also had periods of unemployment mainly due to enforcement of right wing ideology. I have changed my type of work 3 times during my working career (incuding attending Uni to obtain a degree) so I think in general I may know something about this (not just football eh).

    In my opinion the more productive private sector companies were unionised where the management had regular dialogue with the unions and thus kept a happy workforce. You may well disagree with this, again that is your perogative. I have seen waste in both private and public sector (more in the public to be fair) however in the public sector I have never heard of anyone being kicked in the face because he would not work overtime after a 60 hour week. Additionally I have not heard of anyone being struck with a chair(by the employer) in the mouth during a meeting.

    Personally I agree there are some union men who do not apply common sense, as (see above)some employers do not, but in general the ordinary worker would be worse off without unions but it sounds like that would suit you down to the ground.
