A lot of these rights were forced upon NEW LABOUR by the EU. This wasn't a Labour led initiative. Don't kid yourself.

NEW Labour does not represent the working class OLD labour did but is new labour less of an evil than the current crop of incompetent corrupt public schoolboy bullingdon club millionaire spivs that is allegedly running this country?
The Labour party was formed by the unions to represent working people and protect against exploitation but New Labour did not repeal any of the anti working class laws that the witch introduced in the 80's (mininmum wage was one of the few concession's to their roots).
The leader of the RTM union said at the Miners Gala that we need to form our own party as labour have moved away from the working class - the debate over who funds the parties should tell you that. Ed Milliband is happy to lose the union funding so just where will the party then get the funds from? - you guessed it the same type of people who are funding the Torries they are effectively hoodwinking the electorate into thinking they have a say in what ideology is in in government at the time because they all dance to the paymasters tune.
Rant over
Sorry but they were won by trade unions
Maybe we should go down your route and force a Union down Nissan's throats destroying jobs and therefore income for the football club?

Not so much a rant mate, just someone disillusioned with Labour speaking from the heart.
I think what it made it worse with Blair etc, was the hope soon disappeared, and replaced with a sense that nothing had actually changed -it was a Labour Government in name only. As for repealing anti-union laws and the like, they actually added to them to appease the establishment. The way Labour pushed forward with PFI's, would have done any Tory Government justice. Then again is that not what they were.
On me way down there now with the application forms.
Any idea how many I need.![]()
Nope!! wrong again! The unions and their scouse and cockney fat cats didn't. Bunch of Marxist throwbacks.
For example, the minimum wage isn't a new thing. The private companies in the catering industry have had it for decades. (without a unions!!)
Whatever you say. Unlike you I have always worked in industries that have never had trade union representative. In the UK there are only 7 million members of unions (about half of the level in 1978) and this includes professional bodies. In 2009, 23.5% of the UK workforce belonged to a trade union while 46.6% were employed in a workplace where a trade union was present. Figures also show that 61.1% of trade union members worked in the public sector.
The Unions are hardly representative of all of the working population, in some places people were forced to join and any non joiners ostracised.
It's not surprising that only 38% of union members actually create wealth in the UK.
Maybe we should go down your route and force a Union down Nissan's throats destroying jobs and therefore income for the football club?
Tell me do you work in the private or public sector? (do your shop stewards get a free holiday to a communist country like in the past?)
I can't believe some would blame labour for the state of this country. Industry was dead in this country when blair got in. You take away our call centers, a market created by labour and this country is ****ed. Most this country's problems lead back to thatcher due to the way she increased the gap between the classes. We learn by example and today's young adults are the produce of the child of the thatcher generation, a generation brought up without working parents, hence no work ethic. Labour closed the gap a little but todays Tories are still hell bent on increasing the class gap, hence only the rich can afford Education, They don't encourage growth or create a job market for the working class, christ, our government would rather sell our old british built ships abroad to have them dismantled then open the shipyards and give jobs to the working class to improve job opportunities and stimulate growth. This country produces very little and what it does produce fills the pockets of overseas companies so our money leaves the country. Labour rule was temporary relief to the working class which once again has disappeared under another stint of Conservative suppression.

And before people throw up the economy situation, I believe it would have happened who ever was in power and who's to say wouldn't be even worse under a different government.
I certainly wouldn't blame Labour for the state of the economy, the seeds for that we're long planted before they came into power.
Once in power, and maybe naive on my part, but i expected more than what we got. The perception that likes of Blair, Mandelson, Short etc gave off was one of self indulgence and they were in it for themselves. Blair in particular became so self important as though he could save the world but he forgot about what mattered first. That may be just my own perception but I know plenty of people like myself who feel the same way.
I agree with you there fella. Went to his head a bit. Doesn't detract though that as a young adult in that labour government I had opportunities that my older brother and sisters and now in turn my younger nephews and nieces could only dream of. Admittedly I didn't take advantage of those opportunities as the death of my father and severe mental health problems with myself stunted my life development, I only have myself to blame. But a lot of my schoolmates are now living mortgage free (those who fortunately haven't had to remortgage) as they took advantage of their opportunities superbly.
Aye... the 100% mortgage (or 100%) in some cases. The ease of getting mortgages creates so many problems. Left my ex 5 years ago and i've just finished paying of the loan I had to take out so we could remortgage the house to get me of the mortgage. Thanks Mr Blair.
My schoolmates started mortgage free too. But instead of moving in and sitting on their arse, they bought a run down 2up 2down, did it up, added value themselves and the market added value. they sold up and bought a bigger run down place. 5 or 6 houses later they're mortgage free with a paid off car and security for life. Hats off to them, wish i spotted the opportunity.

Do you honestly think that employers granted holidays, a shorter working week, pay increases etc out of the goodness of their hearts?(Rowntrees brothers excepted).
Do you still read Enid Blyton or Hans Christian Andersen? I heard they write a good fairy story too.
