It’s to do with the power rankings that Lloris is number one in the league not actually pundits choosing their best team. Admittedly stats can be misleading, but the fact that Hugo has the same points as Ederson despite only playing 8 matches says a lot. It says he has kept 4 clean sheets as well and made twice the number of saves. Not exactly bad for a keeper supposedly in decline.
I feel it’s because Hugo has set such high standards that his uncharacteristic errors stand out more.
Give Gazza the League cup games and see if he can carry on putting the pressure on. Right now for me it is still a no brainer that Lloris is number 1.
I'm just enjoying playing devil's advocate here
I don't really know much about the power rankings, not sure how they work or the point scoring system, never really been something I've looked into tbh. Ederson gave the penalty away the other day so I'd presume that knocked him for some points(?). Hugo making twice the number of saves doesn't actually surprise me, our defence - in comparison to recent seasons under Poch - has been gash by it's usual standards so the keepers have definitely had more work to do.
Hugo definitely set high standards, hence why at one point many - not just Spurs fans - were considering him one of the top five keepers in Europe. However he's been way below those standards for a while now. I don't think any neutral would now consider him one of the top five keepers in Europe, on current form it'd be hard to even say top ten.
Chelsea and Arsenal next two league games, I really hope Hugo has a couple of blinders, will massively boost his confidence and hopefully serve as a starting point to get back on track and rediscover his pre-17/18 form. We'll need him too if we're to push on this season and retain our top 3/4 status.
