Börje Salming, 71

I realize he'll be more or less unknown in the UK, but an absolute legend, both in Sweden and North America.
Ice hockey giant, type of guy that'd beat the average Joe in any sport at the age of 70. Image below taken in April, before he was diagnosed with ALS.

I'd recommend the clip below for a watch, gets quite emotional at the end. He was honored in Toronto just 2 weeks ago.

Fabulous player. Remember when he and Inge Hammerstrom joined the Toronto Maple Leafs at the same time in '73.Made all the difference to the Toronto Maple Leafs' performances for several years thereafter with their flair, speed and strength. The rushes Salming made from defence to attack were a joy to watch every Saturday night.
RIP Borje.

Talented Hull boxer John Fallon who died after a fall while leaving the pub
Tributes have been paid to a former boxer who beat two world champions, after he died following a fall as he left an east Hull pub.

John Fallon was "a big man and he made a big impact on the lives of so many", his long-term partner said. "He was larger than life and lived it to the full."

The 63-year-old died in Hull Royal Infirmary nearly four months after falling backwards and hitting his head while leaving the Barham pub in Bilton Grange on January 9 this year, an inquest into his death heard yesterday (Thursday).

Irene Cara, the singer best known for the title tracks of Fame and Flashdance, has died aged 63.

Her publicist said she had died in her Florida home and that the cause of death was unknown.

It is. My aunt died of it. She was very well off but nothing or any amount of money can help cope with it. If I was ever diagnosed with it I would seriously think of ending things before it took over to the extent you can’t do a thing.
One of my Daughters colleagues has a husband who has just been diagnosed with it.2 young kids too.

Yes, distant relative of mine died from it in his late 30s. Horrible illness.

passes down the female line, apparently. friends of mine decided not to have kids as one of their mothers died from it, so strong chance of it being passed on.

don revie died from it. in the usa it's known as lou gehrig's disease after a baseball player that died from it.

Wow.
You have to be made of incredibly stern stuff to not get emotional over that. What a lovely tribute.
