About a virus we knew very little about a year ago......They've been developing different flu vaccines for decades and the ones most used are only 30-40% effective..
But all of a sudden, with the deadliest virus for a century (so we're led to believe) we can knock one up that's 90% effective out of the blue.....which we knew nothing about less than a week ago....but decided to announce it days after the US election.......well how lucky was that!! <magic>
You really believe, they didn't know about this before?.... <doh>

But you're writing as if coronavirus was something that popped up a year ago. It isn't. And that makes the rest of the post void.

The first case of Covid19 was reported a year ago mate. So not void

But coronavirus as a whole has been studied for over 50 years. It's not as if this is some individual virus that has no relevance to anything science has researched before. They didn't start from scratch on day 1 of Covid-19 - the Oxford one began 7 years ago, which isn't too far off the average of 10 years which it takes to develop a vaccine. You're simplifying something which is complicated.

Yes, I've read lots about it.....known by some to be millions of years old found in bats etc, certain ones causing 20% of common colds with a few cases dotted around known as SARS affecting some of the older generation dotted about.....blah blah blah, A vaccine development into 1000s of viruses are done across the world all the time.

But doesn't take away the fact that we have this one, a major killer (by all accounts) all of a sudden in the last year , We were told by main stream media and Medical Advisers that although scientists were busy researching it was unlikely a vaccine would be found for many months if not years ...........
But then without notice and out of the blue... two days after, one of the most controversial super power elections on the planet (and so predictable, which I've done a few times over the last couple of days and weeks) ............................Poooof ..............we have 90% effective vaccine more or less ready to go..............

A big difference here 1 for .. the flu vaccine is based on a number of strains that are already in circulation and is forever changing / morphing, the vaccines are based on strains evolving before they get to us, they are to help the body generate a possible head start … I have had my first flu jab ever ...rarely get colds and those I have had were probably flu... so mild it lasts a day or so and no real illness.
COVID is a brand new SINGLE target to be shot at … relativatly the only thing that will kill it is the weapon with the power … the vaccine! presently we are wounding it with a few known old remedies ... [ hand guns ] .. when we need a smart weapon!
This is old news - the Russians have had a vaccine for months!!
not doing them much good though ? is it?

sorry ROB you are mainly WRONG... I say mainly because Corona is the group goes back years [SARS was a corona ] nearly every corona virus appears as a separate entity. For EASE OF UNDERSTANDING WORLD WIDE .. it was Called COVID-19 …. UNKNOWN until late part of 2019. NO CURE available on the shelf, all we can do is avoid spreading it or being stupid and not observing SIMPLE tasks like washing hands or keeping surfaces clean or failing with SD

They didn't start from scratch on day 1 of Covid-19 - the Oxford one began 7 years ago, YOU ARE RIGHT they didn't start from day one of Covid 19 ...probably a day or so after, you are confusing COVID -19 STRAIN with the corona virus grouping. You cant work on something until it is there to work on! As for 10 year average … they are still working on some diseases that are no longer a problem [ but can still appear.. viruses are mysterious things ] because by taking away the ability of it to find a host it stops! ............
take the Olympic flame and the torch's the torch is the virus … it goes to next torch bearer they touch and flame goes to next torch the torch that carried the flame dies ...ran out of gas.. .. alost a million people have prevented the virus from going further... they are dead!

What makes it even more interesting, is the two companies responsible for this miracle 90% effective vaccine are from Germany (BioNTech) and America (Pfizer) .....I wonder if there was a little help or involvement by the Chinese :emoticon-0127-lipss............Maybe I'm clutching at straws again!!!

Oh look Fosun Pharma (Chinese) are also co-developer but not mentioned on any main stream media.................How strange, How coincidental and how amazing is that!!!

So this is all an elaborate ruse to make Trump look bad following the election?

Barking mad mate.

I can't prove it, but had the knowledge of this MIRACLE vaccine, had been known a week or two before the election......Trump would now be president.......
IMO a total and utter setup..

Not a chance. He didn't make it himself you know. He'll probably try and claim he did though <laugh>

UK economy was the hardest hit among major economies from April to June with a 20.4% contraction (those nations on average contracted 9.8%)

Population-adjusted we have the third worst record of Covid deaths in Europe (and 10th in the world)

Granted, it's very difficult to quantify who is the 'worst' and the 'best'. But whichever way you look, we're certainly one of the worst performing countries in the modern world. For a country with the wealth and supposed expertise that we have, we've done very poorly.

Yep they have provided massive amounts of money. Enormous amounts actually. At the start of the pandemic, most countries were lining up to use the joint Google/Apple contact tracing system. It was open source, so people can see exactly how it works and how it uses your data, and seemingly perfect for the situation we were in. Seeing as Apple and Google make up 99% of the mobile phone operating system market, it couldn't be better.

And what did we do? Our government threw millions (possibly billions) at an app that Dominic Cummings wanted to control. Why would you do this when there is a perfectly functional option available? Knowing Cummings and how he illegally used data during the Brexit referendum - well you can imagine why they might want to make their own app which isn't open-source. A ready made excuse to follow everybody, learn their behaviours and locations, and use that to their advantage.... Let's not forget that at times, it can be argued that data is now a more valuable commodity than oil. That's how useful it is. They wanted our data. And they put the interests of themselves over the health of the nation.

They tried, and ultimately failed, and in June they gave up, and went ahead with the aforementioned Google and Apple venture, which they should have done in the first place. This 'NHS' app recently came out, and I phrase it as 'NHS' because it is not NHS at all, and is instead operated by Serco, and they've even managed to balls this up. Since coming out the app has had over 12,000,000 downloads... and it has sent out just one Covid venue notification.

Just bear that in mind. £12bn - and it has sent out ONE venue notification. While other countries have perfectly functioning apps which can stop the spread of the disease. It's eye-watering.

Now in total that is around £12bn, £10bn of which has been given out for services without tender. And instead of going to companies with known expertise, they're constantly being handed out to companies that have just been set up this year, with no tangible experience, and nearly always with a link to a Tory MP or donor. In Serco's case, Dido Harding (Conservative life peer) is head of Test and Trace despite a history of data flops, the CEO is Rupert Soames (brother of former Tory MP Nicholas Soames). Even the Government's Anti-Corruption Champion is Dido Harding's husband and a Tory MP. They've been doing it even throughout Brexit - anyone remember Grayling giving £50m of ferry contracts to a new company with no boats? They're shameless about it.

So in short, when we should have had the ready made Apple/Google app, and saved lives as quickly as other countries did, we've instead killed thousands, ****ed up one app, gone for a second which doesn't work, and in doing so we've just been lining the pockets of Tory mates with the money that you and I put into the tax system.

Bumping this monster post of mine I know but this website does an amazing job of summarising what I said weeks ago.

I suppose it's not worth mentioning to you that much of the debt burden and lack of NHS resources are down to the last labour government for saddling said NHS with 90 billion of debt until at least 2050, by borrowing 30 billion from private investors and having to pay back at an extortionate interest rate, Southmead hospital have to 50 million per year from their budget mainly on interest and of course all the time claiming the tories were planning to sell off the NHS, when actually it was them even Saint Andy Burnham got in on the act.

And today we have the news that labour run Croydon council have gone into administration, allegedly saddled the rate payers with huge debt on vanity projects, then had to slash 400 jobs + 15% off of their budget just to survive this long.

That all helps, of course never forget Mr Khan in London doing his bit as well.

Mr Khan is unfortunate, he has had to follow 2 very successful Lord mayors. When the concept of these overlord mayors were introduced it was to modernize the larger areas by having an "overlord!" to bring it all together. Generally it has a positive effect, but of course, a bit like doing up an old property, you reach a limit to what can be achieved.
