I think we're hurting from the simultaneous loss of both Aluko and Elmo, who along with Chester and Quinn are the key players in our team. It's understandable that our creativity is going to dip without them in the team, neither has a like for like replacement. Re-signing Elmo has to be our number one priority at the moment.
We obviously have the problem of not scoring enough, but the solution is not necessarily to 'play more attacking players'. Although I can see the temptation of playing Meyler, Koren and Quinn behind a front 2, I think that may actually lessen our goal threat. I think that we have to play Evans (or maybe Oli), plus 2 of Meyler, Koren and Quinn. That is perhaps tough, to drop a new signing, our captain, or perhaps our player of the first-half of the season - but it may improve the team. I guess Bruce has been trying to get around that problem a little by playing Koren as the second striker, but judging by his recent efforts, it just doesn't work. I'd like to see Evans, Meyler and Quinn behind a front two of Proschwitz and "New Signing". Thinking about it, I wouldn't be too disappointed if Mclean was that parter for Proschwitz - if we can't get anybody else that is proven/exciting. If it came down to a RWB or a Striker, i'd probably go for the RWB and bring back Mclean. Give him and Proschwitz a good run of games together, and I am confident that it could work.
If we don't sign a striker, then the Allam's just spent £3.5m for no good reason. How does Brucey expect to win games, when we haven't got a single top quality striker available?
I think that Proschwitz can be that man. Although, I am inclined to agree that he could do with someone next to him.
One indisputable fact is that we haven't beaten Barnsley since Ricardo took over as mod on their board. Coincidence?
Agree always thought hiss eyes we're too close together hiss FFS hiss I do feel superior having an I pad but ...
Even when the team was playing the best i have seen up to Christmas and we were creating 20/30 chances a game we knew we needed a striker then, now losing Elmo and Aluko two of our best players has made a huge difference. and in reality we are now three players short no wonder we have gone off the boil, Losing in the cup was a disappointing but losing 3pts would have been worse, i think the biggest concern is this bad run has gone on since Sheffield Wednesday and lets be honest in that period we have played some very poor sides
Prossie did not have a great game - strikers who have great games either score goals or make goals - he did neither - he cost £2.6m and is simply not good enough - he's a gamble thats gone wrong so far and there is no evidence he's going to get better - he would probably do extremely well in League 1 or 2 - in the same way Elliot was brilliant in the lower divisions but it didn't quite work in the championship - sorry but Bruce messed up on this one
It was always the call that we needed a better midfield and a striker (or two!), we have sorted the midfield and then injury has sorted one of them and a lacklustre team seems to be having an effect on the other. But a striker should always have been the priority, a proven one at that. Strikers are a fickle breed and what we want and need are in demand and need an ambitious budget. The need for a striker is greater than the need to bring back Elmo, but both would be ideal. The owners need to look at what they have invested and be bullish in forcing a return. I did not attend yesterdays game, weather, etc. made it an easy decision. Having read many accounts, one of the standout views is that McShane played well, again. Should he now be a natural selection?
Aluko and Elmo have been our 2 best attacking options all season, look toothless and slow without them..
