Lord Beer = zeTom is my new theory.

Although Lord Beer seems smarter than zeTom was.

Thanks! <ok>

That's a bit of a ****ty offer to be honest. Certainly not fair on Nolan. Even if he tries his best, his contract and wages are at the mercy of other players and how they perform. To be honest, I can see a deal like that causing conflict in the team more than anything else.

Why is Mike Ashley such an idiot sometimes?

It's hardly unfair, if Nolan performs well it won't go unoticed. It's just an incentive to make sure Nolan doesn't get complacent. Let's face it, we'd all be pissed if we gave Nolan a new contract and he did **** all for the next 4 years.

I'd wager alot of money (or my cock as seems to be the trend) that even if we don't finish 7th, Nolan would still get a good deal.

Also, 50k a week for 3 years when you've just turned 30 is not bad at all.

Why not? Are you saying we should just launch money at them? Pay them whatever just because?

I'm aware they bring alot to the side the dressing room, but as has previously been stated, Barton has had 1 good season in 4, why should we pander to his every need?

As much as they may be the 'heart and soul' this constant negative output will eventually have a damaging effect on the club and other players, then where will they be?

This. Totally agree.

Keep Barton and Nolan on and try to re-negotiate as their contracts wind down. But if they continue to bleat to the media and the fans about their failure to get their own way then whe should kick them into touch. They already get paid a fortune but then seem to think that they deserve more just for performing well. Performing well is the least you should expect for £65k a week and is not the justification for yet another payrise. Especially when there is a wage cap in place which is set at a lower amount. If they can't except that then they know where the door is, the long term financial security of the club is more important then them.

I agree with SBR's original comment. Yeah, they add a lot to the dressing room but that can't be a reason to throw money at them. That tweet that Barton posted the other day with the picture really pissed me off to be honest.

No. It's a legal contract. It's what they're there for. If you do what's stipulated in the contract, you get your reward. If you don't, then you don't get it. Do you honestly think Ashley is the type of guy to say "well we didn't reach 7th, but you can have your raise anyway"? I highly doubt it.

I'm all for incentives, but they have to be realistic incentives which are based on the players ability and work-rate.

I never said we should throw money at them and nor is anyone else.

Where did i say pay them what ever they want mate? My desire for them to stay is partially inspired by the fact that they'd both stick to the wage cap.

Neither of them are asking for big wages, Barton even agreed a pay cut.

Don't just assume that i'd be one to throw money at them, just to keep them. If they were really tight bastards like that, then i'd have no love for them and then be happy for them to piss off, but i know they are big chracters on our team, and they held us together.

We can sign what we think are two more quality players to replace them, but that doesn't mean we'll perform as well.

Firstly, i didn't say you did, read my post again.

Secondly, Barton agreed to take a pay cut on HIS terms, not the clubs. They have a wage structure and for once the club is being sensible with what it offers.

No, the offer wouldn't come into practice until the end of the season, so the terms could easily be reviewed.

And yes, personally, i can see Ashley rewarding Nolan IF his performances merit it.

I've had this debate before but will do it again. If you're Mike Ashley, successfull businessman, billionaire and all round pie lover and one of your employees was making public appearances calling you a twat and an idiot etc would really give them a new contract so he can continue to slag you off for another 4 years?

No.

Barton and Nolan both have agenda's here. They want new contracts on their terms and seem to think that the club cannot afford to lose them both so they are trying to force through a "keep us both happy or lose us both" proposal. In addition Barton's comments to the fans and media about us needing to buy the club because the club needs a change of ownership were out of order and could be damaging our attempts to make the signings we need.

If any of us tried that in our jobs we would be sacked on the spot. If Nolan wants to tie his own negotiations into that fool's then he is seriously misguided. Either way I'm getting fed up of hearing them do their negotiating via the fans and media.

Well that's all just plucking out of thin air. I'm only interested in what is being stated in contracts. I won't even attempt to guess what Ashley MIGHT do when we really have no idea whatsoever.

I can hardly say "well the contract offer is poor, but Ashley MIGHT give him a raise anyway, so he should sign it", can I?

You asked if i was saying we should just launch money at them, so i replied with another question. See how asking rhetorical questions can imply something you didn't mean?

Anyway, the wage cap has it's uses in the sense that it will stop players being on silly wages like Michael Owen on 130k a week, but it could hinder our progress aswell.

If we want to keep players like Enrique, having a wage cap of 50/60k a week isn't going to help us. To be honest i'd pay over the wage cap to keep Enrique and Tiote if bids come in, but that's just my opinion and i think they're worth the extra money.

Exactly.

Some people fail to understand just how seriously close to ****ed our club was. Whilst Ashely has made some stupid decisions he has continued to run the club in a sensible and professional way and he's got us back on a path where we can now actually pay serious money for players and look to invest in our future.

What people think of Ashley as a person is fine but as a businessman and how he's steadied the ship here i fail to see how people can knock him.

If Mike Ashley wasn't such a twat he wouldn't be called a twat. If i was the owner of Newcastle, i'd not use the club like an advertising board and a toy and i'd also know alot more about football than Mike Ashley, and therefore hopefully gain the respect of the players, so they wouldn't call me a twat.

Anway, when has Joey Barton directly called him a twat anyway? I've seen him criticise the club/board ect over twitter, but he never used words like that and he didn't name any names.

That's not a wage cap it's a guideline then, no point in having it if it means nothing. The wage cap will help us because we won't best part of £100Million in debt again.

Exactly.

This, most definitely this.

Very well said LB! <ok>

He didn't have to name names at all because his comments were clearly directed at the board and owner with the sole intention of stating that the club isn't run well.

Suggesting that the fans buy the club as 'it's the only way forward' was tantamount to running up to your boss in the pub for the Friday after work social, shouting your a **** and a **** boss and I hope you get sacked when expecting a pay rise.

Each to their own, but the quote states the contract wouldn't take effect until the end of next season, so that implies that given it's incentive based clauses it would be renegotiated, urgo, he could still get a decent offer.

Personally, i don't think it's a poor offer.

I don't see it hindering us, as i said, if they continue to bad mouth the club it will do them more harm than good. The fact we have a wage cap means we're being sensible about things. As good as Nolan and Barton have been, they don't fall into a 'World Class' bracket and in my eyes and probably Ashley's, aren't deserving of the big salary.

Take into account age as well, Tiote and Enrique probably have another 6-7 years at the club and so would justify a heft long term investment as well as a high sale value should the need arise. Nolan and Barton don't have that, so paying over the odds for somone who still has time to run down and adds no financial value to the club is not good for the club.

Sorry Tash but I think MA knows far more about running a football club than you do and he has footballing men to make the other decisions.

As for Barton he directly and through his agent suggested that nufc needed a new owner and that the club couldn't progress without one. Reading between the lines that is calling somebody a twat, or worse!
