Like I said on the Larsson thread, I think Rodwell is a better player than he is given credit for. On pure technical ability he is much better than several players in our squad, including several who are generally immune from criticism. Unlike those players, he rarely, if ever, delivers. As a result he is widely derided as"****", which simply isn't the case. I would imagine comments from the match day crowd, the media, and on social media can all have an effect on a player's confidence and form. However, it is up to the club to create the right kind of environment in which its players can reach peak performance. It may simply be that the conditions at Sunderland, as at Man City, don't suit Rodwell. In which case, he probably needs to leave. It may be something in his psychology that only he himself can address. Either way, the "Rodwell is ****" comments irritate me because they are too simplistic. Anyone who pays proper attention can see he has the potential to be a good player.
