Yeah but, As NowSuffering said, irrespective of anything we did or could or should have done, Arsenal would've been mid-table without VP.

Here's hoping he has a bit of a **** Euros so his price doesn't get too inflated. And then Arsenal use the money to buy another Chamack.

I don't know what they'll do if they lose him. The guy is class. there's no one in the world they can sign who will score that volume of goals in the prem and produce that many assists. Arsenal must find a way to keep him, simple as that.

Hard to say, but I actually feel sorry for Arsenal fans, as we know how it feels and how badly it can disrupt the team. Berba and Keane leaving was horrific, and the saga last summer with Modric was minging.

Clubs like Arsenal and Spurs, need to put their foot down and just say "NO" to the insanely rich. we're showing signs of that and hopefully Levy will stick to his word. But Arsenal need to do the same. The premiership is already a farce and it's just going to become worse if clubs like us and arsenal keep selling. There'll just be no competition. City can only field 11 men FFS.

I know what you mean, Roo. But I just can't feel sorry for Arsenal - they've been so incredibly flukey over the years. They have plenty of bad luck due.

And if (when, surely?) they finish outside the top four the first time it's going to be so difficult for them to finish top 4 the next year. I just have no problem with them having to deal with the bullshit of huge money just like we have over the years. It was crazy money, after all, that got Sol to walk away. And I really hope we over-take them soon. That will be a huge acheivement.

You can't use could have,would have and should have for one side of the argument but totally ignore it for the other.

Correct. As I pointed out to Amaar, the whole world seem to know that Fabregas and Nasri were leaving. The only one who refused to accept it, was Wenger.

Podolski looks set to replace Arshavin down the left - come to think of it, they'll probably offload Arshavin for £8-10m this summer as well.

If they want somebody to replicate Van Persie's goalscoring record and fit into the way Wenger plays, there's the likes of Benzema and Ibrahimovic who are supposedly available this summer, or they could make an approach for Huntelaar. If, as is Arsene's way, they want to sign a younger striker, there's Luuk de Jong or Robert Lewandowski...or Wenger wants to try and get one over on Barca by signing Bojan Krkic - even though Barca sold him to Roma last summer.

There isn't two sides of an argument here. Even if Spurs had won every single one of their games in the entire season still the most relevant factor as to where Arsenal ended up would have been down to their results against the other eighteen teams.

I think you're confusing what the point is here. Cos even if we had "pulled our finger out of our arses" I would still be thinking about how great it would be for VP to leave Arsenal. It's got nothing to do with Spurs' results this season.

This thread is simply not about our late-season collapse or any small influence our results could have had (limited to a single position in the league) on where Arsenal ended up. You must be (understandably, perhaps) thinking of another conversation.

Agree. Whoever they get, for whatever money - he won't be as good as VP has been this year. It'll need to be a miracle signing for it not leave them hugely weakened.

People can chat about this or that player that they've seen mentioned on Newsnow but the stark fact is that most transfers (regardless of the fee) fail, especially if you're talking about players joining the Prem from outside England.

i understand that Lenny but i was following on from what YV said in that all this would be irrelevent had we got one draw into a win....really it would because we would be arguing that even though they have a 40 goal a season striker and we have 15 goal a season strikers..we still finished above them.

i understand this is nothing to do with Spurs..but its impossible to detach one from the other as they are both basically in competition with each other for top 4....and they influence what each other might regard as success.

im not confusing the inital point..im merely looking it at it from outside the box.
