…Le Bris and Ghisolfi then spoke to the winger at length over a video call and the head coach was extremely impressed by what he heard from the 22-year-old.

"We had the usual video call to connect and get to know each other," said Le Bris. "That's important. We can assess a player watching three, four, five, six games, it depends on the time we have. So this part was done. After that, it's still interesting to have a conversation.

"We need to meet each other to find the right connection. And it's more about feelings rather than rational, I would say. So this video call was really positive with me and with Flo. Now we'll see on the pitch."

Angulo starred for Anderlecht in the first half of the season in Belgium, contributing seven goals and providing eight assists. Those numbers obviously impressed Le Bris and Sunderland, but the head coach was also struck by the winger's tactical awareness, discipline and defensive stats.

"It was a point during our conversation in the video call, we discussed he even played even as a left wing-back with Anderlecht, which shows that he has the physical attribute to combine both, because for a winger, sometimes it's the case, if they have to defend more, and it's the case in the Premier League, no choice, they can lose their energy to attack.

"So the balance has to be combined, both phases have to be combined, and I think for him it's the case. He already showed that he's able to defend alone on the sidelines, because of the staff, and he still keeps his ability to be efficient offensively."

Angulo replaced Simon Adingra, who only arrived in the summer but struggled to make a mark on Wearside and joined Monaco on loan until the end of the season. The deal includes an option for Monaco to make the switch permanent in the summer. While Adingra lacked consistency on Wearside, it was also put to Le Bris that the former Brighton winger also struggled with the defensive side of the game.

"That's possible, it's a good point," said Le Bris. "When you have to defend an attack, our wingers are really involved in our defensive system, so they might lack energy to counter-attack, to be efficient, to be clinical, to be creative in the offensive part of the game. It's a good point."

Nice write up. These lines pop out as exciting:

He's somewhere between younger Luis Diaz and Raphinha when it comes to player profile.

Most important part, he has the engine to run and engage endless duels, something important for Premier League.

well mate from the play ive seen on the video coupled with what Regie said about him being already up to speed and match fit, that he may get a chance from the bench on saturday,Ill be chuffed to see him play even if its a half hour i know this lad will impress, I agree totaly with your assumption.
