When I first started watching City in late 60s/early 70s, City got 20,000 and Hull got about 2,000.

They can't all have been at sea or getting pissed in Rayners.. This was when the fishing was still thriving and employing people.

Then we had the Cod Wars and undoubtedly a lot of men suddenly had jobs onshore or not at all. Maybe that's when Hull's support grew and when Bunting started winning games?

I think you missed the point, due to the way fishermen worked, 5 tides at home, then back to sea, most didn't go and watch either football or Rugby. What I was saying was that out of the relative few who did go and watch a game when they were home, most seemed to watch Hull FC rather than City.

A typical time at home for the crew that were married.

Arrive tide 1 say midnight.
Pick up their settlings (Money) lunchtime Tide 2
In the pub that lunchtime and evening, Tide 3
Next day usually went into town with the wife and lunchtime and evening in the pub, tide 4-5
Sail the next morning.

AS you see very little time to do anything else.

So there is a month at the end of a contract when players are not actually playing.
Most of ours start in August.
Players signed in the January window don’t start in July

Yes , the contracts end at the end of june , that's just the way it works . If players sign in january they will have a half year on the contract length
