It seems Mansell is more unpopular now all of his 'exploits' off the track have become more documented. Almost seems fashionable not to like him now.

At the time he was racing there is no doubt there was never a more popular driver, especially in Britain. I didn't care less at the time about his occasional whinging and persecution complex, it was a pleasure to watch him fight on the track.

Maybe that's becuase there was less media intrusion back in those days so a lot less was reported to the wider public. Now a driver can;t break wind without it ending up on the internet somwhere for idiots to complain that he didn't fart with enough passion (not close enough to following through so showed a lack of commitment) or Alonso's farts smell sweeter.

    That's very true Chris.

Back in those days there was nothing I wanted more (for someone else) than to see 'our Nige' claim what seemed long overdue.

I do remember enjoying Nigel banging wheels with Nelson at Brands 86 I think, Nigel passed the line first but it was a good race, the last at Brands I believe, me and Mrs Becclestone, actually her first live GP, sitting on the banking at Clearways, now Clark curve, on top of home made scaffolding, them was the days !!!!!!
