From the comments I have managed to roughly translate from the SC Paderborn fb page and from Kicker magazine, it seems Gruether Furth cannot match the fee we are willing to pay so have now turned their attention to a Dresden striker. I have not seen any other club, apart from ourselves, linked with Proschwitz. Paderborn fans seem certain he is Hull bound, not to mention being over the moon about the £2 million we are expected to pay.

Maybe no other club will risk £2m on an unknown striker from the German second division

You have to take risks with strikers - unless you want to pay £10m+.

I know nothing about this bloke, other than he's German, tall and striker.

    Couldn't comment on his ability.

It's still pretty exciting to think that we seem close to signing a £2m player.

We must presume Steve knows best and he will turn out to be a hit. Fingers crossed.

He has quite a good goal scoring record.

16 goals in 36 games for VfL Wolfsburg II
11 goals in 33 games for Hannover 96 II
23 goals in 29 games for FC Vaduz
17 goals in 33 games for SC Paderborn 07

It is, let's hope he settles well and can crack open the goals here.

    Subject to signing of course...

He has also apparently spent most of his career in the Bundesliga 2. or the Swiss PL (equivalent) so there's always the question, would he fit into the 'English game'?

At 6 foot 3 and a half, I would say no problem. He'll score a bundle and set Fryatt up too!

I've spent most of my career in Sweden, but the last year in England.
    I'm around 6 foot 7. Where do I sign the contract?<party>

Nah, but as I sad earlier I reckon he would be a good signing. A good counterpart to Fryatt as you mentioned.

You wanna be talking to Bruce mate! Should the Proschwitz and Heskey deals both fall through, you could be our 3rd option... ;)<ok>

Does anyone else have a nagging feeling that us paying £2 mil for a player at this time is...well unlikely ?

    Possibly. Well, yes.

But the sounds being made are all positive, almost as if it's a formality now.

I wish to summon the power of the French Tickler now and say TIME WILL TELL.

    End of.

Two million for this guy is a massive gamble in my opinion. For that money you would want an instant return and there have got to be doubts about that happening, given the guy has no experience at all in non Germanic leagues or higher grades of football. Couldn't we spend 2 million on a player in this country and get a guaranteed return instead? I am having flashbacks to the Stan Ternent era when he spent a fortune on misguided gambles like Tony Finnegan and others. There is suddenly a lot of love for Bruce on here but is he one of these managers that needs to spend a fortune to have any chance of succeeding rather than bringing players on? Not a fan previously of Bruce though I hope for the best now he is with us and with this signing if it happens.

Apart from his experience in the Swiss top division and the Europa league you mean?

It's fine saying that, but if you aren't going to buy Schnorbitz, who are you going to buy that is going to be more likely to succeed for less money?

I saw FC Thun mentioned, but if you look at Europa League you have a lot of minnows playing in it from smaller countries so maybe that's not as impressive as it sounds. I want this guy to do well but he's 25 and not played in a non German environment. It's great being positive of course nothing wrong with that, but I wonder if some people are getting carried away from what I've read on here about certain things.
