I don't think it's fair to include Arsenal in the 'big moneymen' list.
If you look at the players in and out of the club under Wenger's tenure, you'll find he's only spent a tad over a million per year if averaged out.
A mix of spotting and buying talent young (Walcott, Oxlade-Chamberlain) and bringing through home grown academy and youth players has served the club well in his 15 years in charge.
A similar policy to our very own Lambert, really, in terms of avoiding the Carroll's and Torres's of this world - and long may it continue in Norwich City's case![]()
Furthermore, Arsenal under Wenger have consistently refused to be held to ransom over player wages. "Buying success" isn't really a matter of transfer fees; the net cost of transfers can be quite limited (though of course you have to have access to sufficient funds to pay e.g. £50m for a player). The true measure is player wages. Eighteen months ago Man U were effectively held to ransom by Rooney; he's still at Man U. A succession of players have tried to hold Arsenal to ransom, none are still at the club.
