£425,000 for Lambert,£400,000 for Holt. £50,000,000 for Torres.Difficult to work out which one of those was the bad deal?

I'm sure I saw somewhere, if Liverpool win the league cup and the FA cup final is between two sides already in Europe then the team in 7th ends up in Europe as well. I'll have to hunt out where I found it though so bare with me.

    Found it

Yes we are, can't remember who we're playing though

Well 7th is a realistic target, what am I saying, we're supposed to be struggling in the bottom three, what's going on, has the world gone mad ? In the words of our great leader "it's most bizzare!" <laugh>

    didn't realise that dazz <cheers>

what i find remarkable is that for a combined total of around £1m, ie the amount given for each position in the premier league, we've signed paul lambert, grant holt, wes hoolahan and david fox!!

    daylight robbery!! <laugh>

Fact is the boys have done exactly what they needed to do, accumulate a fantastic points total before our really difficult run-in. By the time that run-in commences we SHOULD be mathmatically safe and IMO the team will be able to play with freedom with no pressure to get a result. Therefore, you never know, we could see some crazy results, here's hoping anyhow <ok>

how on earth do you pay back 11 million, i am glad our little club has money in the bank and made a profit, thanks to selling great players like holt joe hart etc. i should go for the cup and 4th place if i were paul lambert.

Looking forwards we have two excellent additions to the squad picked up in January plus the return to fitness of Vaughan and at some stage surely we will be able to finish a match with the same back four we started with. I can't be the only one thinking that the team are currently playing really well and it seems like PL's tactical magic touch has returned. I think the lack of pressure can be a double edged sword - how often at the end of the season does a team desparately needing points roll over a team sitting comfortably in mid-table? Don't get me wrong I'd much rather have a home win Saturday week and pretty much guaranteed safety than be sitting watching the last last match of the season with no fingernails and even less hair that I currently sport but I think that once objective one - safety - has been achieved PL and the backroom team will have to re-earn their corn motivating the lads to keep going to the end of the road.

thankfully for us, the £11m we owe delia isn't being called for. she has said she will only ask for it if and when the club is sold. the rest of our debt is pretty much for paying for our new stand, so its like a mortgage really, so nothing much to worry about. the shrews have had some pretty good players then! marc tierney too :D

I like this thread. Reminds me of some of those old threads when people put out a random, "if we had a 100million or a rich arab owner what would we achieve" threads, with people talking about wembley and top 6 finishes in the PL... Only difference now is we're in with a shot of achieving these sort of goals with our current set up!! Happy days yellows.

Having a hundred million from a rich arab would ensure one thing for certain.I wouldn't be following the club anymore. It's this kind of thing that has caused the situation we are in today. When it comes to winning the league I support anyone but Chelsea or Man City, the two clubs that epitomise the "Throw money at it until you win" mentality that is madness.OK United,Spurs,Arsenal,Newcastle and Liverpool have all had money but they havn't spent £50million on players in an attempt tp bludgeon their way to a title.

The attraction of Norwich is partly that we havn't had money. It is far more satisfying to earn something than to have it given to you.

i disagree with much of this. to accuse man city and chelsea of 'throwing money at it' but not accusing the same of man utd, arsenal, liverpool and spurs is a massive contradiction. check out how much arsenal, the tightest of all these clubs, have spent on player purchases - its frightening! spurs spent about £150m on young talent a few years ago and are now seeing the benefit. liverpool - well, where do we start on the total and utter dross they have purchased, whilst united are the proud payers of four of the top ten british transfers of all time.

every single club that wins the title has bought it in one way or another. its not how much money you pay for players but how good the players are and how they work in the team and how well they are managed. for instance, if you stuck paul jewell in charge of man city with all their millions, i very much doubt he would have any success. i admit there is a large divide in our league courtesy of the champions league money more than anything, but people tend to forget that chelsea were a constant threat to the title years before abramovich came along - he built on top of what they already had and made the difference. man city are slightly different as they came from nowhere, but few can suggest they are not a massive club who have underachieved throughout their history. i like the fact that there are some new teams challenging at the top.

realistically it means we can't compete with these teams but thats just the way football has changed. if you want to blame anything it should be the champions league money and the sky money for making football what it is today - not the sheiks of this world. they wouldn't be here without sky and the champions league. where i agree is that i would never ever want a sheik in charge of our club - it would be the death of it. sadly, many, who seem to live in a short-term bubble, would see it as the birth of the club and that success would be on its way, but it takes a lot more than just money. at the moment, city have got the balance pretty much perfect and long may it continue. you can chase the glory like portsmouth did but it won't last forever - there will come a day when all the above will suffer and i don't want my club to be a part of the suffering - i've had quite enough of that!

Couldn't agree more Supers. Besides, this is my club, it always has been and it always will be. I wouldn't want a sheikh, tsar, or drug baron to take it over, but if they did I would STILL support them come what may.

I do wonder sometimes if we do have a few years of mid table stability in the EPL whether we might see what I call the Charlton syndrome kicking in, where Curbs who managed a small team well and consistently over-achieved got leveraged out by those claiming he lacked ambition! Look at what happened there in short order

that would be my fear too, although i'd quite like to get to that stage as it would mean we'd had many years in the premier league!

I don't think it's fair to include Arsenal in the 'big moneymen' list.
If you look at the players in and out of the club under Wenger's tenure, you'll find he's only spent a tad over a million per year if averaged out.

A mix of spotting and buying talent young (Walcott, Oxlade-Chamberlain) and bringing through home grown academy and youth players has served the club well in his 15 years in charge.

A similar policy to our very own Lambert, really, in terms of avoiding the Carroll's and Torres's of this world - and long may it continue in Norwich City's case <ok>

the reason i would disagree is because they have consistently spent £10m+ on individual players. just because they have recouped the money in terms of player sales does not mean they do not splash the cash, even if it is on a level slightly below the others. they actually spent around £35m during the summer on players
