I would take either Deeney or Rhodes, but Deeney would be my preference as he has exactly the style we have been looking for over the past 6 years; he is a proven finisher and that is something that the league does not change. At £7-10M he will not be cheap and speculative, to a point, but shy bairns get nowt - this is the time to take a punt. Whickham is a good lad but not for us, I hope. For what it's worth my money is on Deeney coming in.

So, if WBA get £1.2m from this expected transfer, we have to pay circa £10m for an equivalent replacement, we're not really any better off.

danny Welbeck? that would be a dream signing for city that's for sure

there's not one ****ing chance he'd be here

I would love it though

I wouldn't want Deeney, Rhodes or Wickham. They're no improvement on what we had.

That said, if it is one of those, I'd be behind them 100%.

(Lets pray it's Welbeck though :p )

There is no way we will not sign another striker. We only have Sagbo and Jelavić as recognised first choice strikers. Brady and Ince aren't strikers and Aluko plays such a deep lying role he's almost more of an attacking midfielder than a traditional striker.

Prepare to be disappointed.

CMPunk i know he's been linked with big clubs but if you don't try then you don't get, ive just looked him up when he signed for Swansea for 12 million and one big reason he signed was because of Swansea getting in the Europa League, i know its very unlikely and its a massive long shot but like i say if you don't try then you haven't got a chance. If you could get him for around 18 million and recieve 12.5 for Long then to me it would be fantastic however i know he will properly want a bigger club but why not test the water

Can you imagine... Danny Welbeck signing for City? would ****ing love it to be true but cant see it happening... i know he's played for Bruce before... but still, you'd have thought much bigger clubs would be interested... we're talking about a regular for England..

nice to dream though..

Welbeck didn't play against Valencia.... Just goint to stir the pot a bit

Heard a whisper that Burnsy has claimed he knows the name of our number 1 target and is a well known name and a potential great signing for us

Deeney is way too expensive at £10M in my opinion and Wickham has an attitude problem according to Sunderland fans and has demanded an obscene raise in wages. The analogy isn't different at all, different players have different playing styles and Deeney/Wickham up front with Jelavic just screams hoofball. We need a balance and we had that with Long during his partnership with Jelavic. Ings would be an ideal replacement as he is a similar player to Long. Two immobile strikers up front wouldn't suit a 3-5-2 at all as it requires fluidity.

Why does it scream hoof ball? We have seen that we have quality movement and passing ability in our centre-midfield, we also have pace and crossing ability on our flanks, so why would a Jelly / Deeney partnership scream hoof ball? They can both finish better than Long and they can both pop-up in the right place at the right time. Sagbo is also a quality player who must not be overlooked as a partner to hold balls up for any decent striker to run in and then, take his own chances when offered. This is all about options and, if it pans out right, we will have plenty of them.
As an aside, a bit O/T, I could fully understand it if Quinn went, but if Elmo went I would be very disappointed - he is a cracking character who raises his game when others drop theirs.
We have had other seasons when we have looked at transfers with eyes very wide open, but this is the first season when we are looking at realistically signing real game-changing quality. It is, potentially, a coming-of-age for the football club.

I'd say two of those will be better once they've been given the opportunity, the other is better now & will improve.
