You wonder why. I used to discuss this with another poster on here going right back to the early 1970s comparing how many Sunderland, Boro, Sheffield Utd and Wednesday and Leicester brought here compared to how many we took there (particularly the amounts of fans "up for it") and he always maintained we would be the same if we ever reached the top flight and got a bit of comparable history. He had missed only 4 games home or away in the last 8 years. This season he has missed more than that already, including some home games and being a season ticket holder. Something has brought about this change in people's attitude to supporting their club.
Always been the same. Remember all those life long fans who went to Wembley in 1980? It was only 3 or 4 seasons previously that FC were getting less than 1,000 and Rovers crowds were nothing to,write home about. Recent cup semi-finals have seen only 7,000 fans going to games as near as Huddersfield and Doncaster.
In the 1970s for a brief time the speedway time got more than City, FC and Rovers combined.
Forget numbers, the quality of our fans is shocking.
How many arrests have been made on City fans? When was the last time our support was so volatile we got locked in and marched to and from the stadium? Don't get me wrong I'm not condoning breaking the law but these things only tend to happen when boundaries are being pushed in a tasty crowd. We don't get anything like that, even 70% of our away support sits on their arse and doesn't utter a noise other than the odd groan when a pass goes astray.
Of the other 30%, 27% might clap along to the happy clappy Steve Bruce song without joining in, with about 3% total making any sort of noise and attempting to unsettle/piss off the enemy.
We even get outsung by the home support at away games ffs.

So the quality of away support is now graded on who can have the most arrests? Give me a ****ing break.
I think it's modern money-football. What is there to achieve for the club? Sport is supposed to be about competition. Well what real competition has there been in the game for a club like ours since Sky bought the rights 20-odd years ago?
Promotion to division 1? Check.
FA cup final? Check.
Playing in Europe? Check.
How much further can we soar?
The fans want success.
Ever going to win the division 1 title? Unlikely.
Ever going to win a cup? Unlikely (which is what the excitement was about last season).
Ever going to play in Europe again? Unlikely now that you have to win something (let's face it we had an easy draw to get to the final last year and a lot of fans will find it hard to forgive Bruce for the way he approached the Europa League).
All you have left are 1-off victories from local derbies or the well-monied teams for bragging rights. Any fan should want us to rest players in our league games to give us the best chance of winning the 4 games that win the league cup.
The owners just want us back in the money league so they can see a return on their investment and will instruct their manager as such.
That turned out well as the can't be arsed types would probably have moaned at people for standing up in front of them. The cup final was a bit of an exception where we made some real noise. Compare to Arsenals support who were as silent as a dead stick insect.
You missed the point by a fair way.
We don't get any arrests because everyone is very well behaved sitting down silently as if at the cinema or a theatre. Most of our fans probably scramble to put their phones on silent just prior to kick off.
I didn't miss the point at all but when you start your post claiming our fans aren't arrested enough, it discredits that below.
There were a few on their phones in front of me on Tuesday as the match was getting started, think people are spoilt and take things for granted these days and that is reflected with those who think the owner can change the name to whatever he wants. Every match I go to is a treat and an experience in my eyes and that won't ever change. Not had time to read this thread but I think we might have a squeak against Man City, this is based on nothing much apart from all the pundits writing us off and favouring Sheff Weds to cause the upset when we are a much better team than the Wendies.
It is Christmas. Hull Fair. Easter. School holidays. A working day involving travel. All problems for us but problems, other than Hull Fair, don't seem to affect other teams as much.
Underneath the lighthearted not enough arrests stuff in your original post thetre is a good point. Most away followings seem to be comprised of the most rabid, vociferous fans. Whereas we seem to have a preponderance of sit down, shut up types. Especially when we were in the PL and they were more interested in gawping st and photoing the likes of Stevie G, .wayne and the rest. Compare the Bournemouth fans at Liverpool, all stood up whilst we had fans ejected because others had complained about others standing up. Norwich all stood up st ?West Ham unlike us. We had loads sat down at Tottenham, West Ham, Southampton and others. Some blamed the stewards. But watch other fans at these games and virtually all the away fans are stood up. Maybe word gets around between stewards that you may not dare push Geordies, Mackems, Scousers Man U or West Ham fans about but you can take your frustrations out by pushing Hull City fans about as half of them won'5 object and will quite happily put up with their own fans being ejected.
Of course other clubs may not have the young kids, parents and uncles who are unsteady on their feet and who we seem to have so many of compared to other clubs. Other clubs seem to end up withnthevfew who want to sitbdown at the front but our fans insist on their seat being theirs and refusing to swap and making a big issue of it.
Not according to the Capital One Cup website.
'22.2 In all Cup Competition matches, the Visiting Club shall have the right to claim 10 per cent of all tickets reserved or otherwise sold in advance (any variation to that figure shall be subject to the consent of the Management Committee).'
True, but they are taking huge numbers across the country for every league game, it might not have always been the case but in the past two seasons or so their away support has been one of the best in the country.
