I work on a 2 year contract that gets renewed/not renewed as the case may be. They company pays a bonus of 1 month salary for each year one has worked for them if one chòoses to leave or is made redundant of a contract is not renewed. Currently I have worked there for 3 years so if i were to leave/made redundant i would get 3 months salary plus the current month plus any outstanding holiday money. It could work out as much as 50k. It would be good if UK companies adopted this system. Its not good to be made redundant but a little cash helps. One of my colleagues who was made redundant took home nearly 90k.

at an employer, you get 1 month of redundancy pay for every year of service.
Some companies will make a decent gesture to any employees in that situation with
less than 2 yrs service, and similarly more than 1 month per year to long serving employees.

3. Redundancy pay
You’ll normally be entitled to statutory redundancy pay if you’re an employee and you’ve been working for your current employer for 2 years or more.
You’ll get:
Length of service is capped at 20 years.
- half a week’s pay for each full year you were under 22
- one week’s pay for each full year you were 22 or older, but under 41
- one and half week’s pay for each full year you were 41 or older
If you were made redundant on or after 6 April 2017, your weekly pay is capped at £489 and the maximum statutory redundancy pay you can get is £14,670. If you were made redundant before 6 April 2017, these amounts will be lower.
Back in the day, employers used to offer significantly enhanced redundancy terms and pension benefits. A month per year was a minimum figure.
