I'm not calling for wholesale changes though. I would say we 100% need to get rid of one of Trippier/Aurier and one of Lamela/Moura, giving the second player another season to prove themselves. On that logic I would say fair-thee-well to Lamela and Trippier who have both had significantly longer to establish themselves and haven't done so. We also 100% need to move Wanyama and Rose on as neither of them are the same player since their injuries. And then same again for GKN and Janssen as they aren't in Poch's plans and never will be. If we can shift those 6 players early in the summer, I will be very happy. They have all hung around for far, far too long. QED what will actually end up happening is that we'll sell Toby and Eriksen, send out GKN and Janssen on loan on deadline day, and bring in no replacements.
Do I remember talk last week about rugby union being played at the new stadium ? I wonder why Dele was seen wearing a Saracens top and 2 Saracens players wearing Spurs tops on the pitch today ?
For me the main requirements for the summer are i.) A starting central midfielder to replace Dembele ii.) A starting-worthy right back, with Aurier being sold to free up a place iii.) A defensive midfielder iv.) A replacement for Toby* v.) A replacement for Eriksen** While I do think a winger would be a good acquisition, rather than look at a right winger to compete with/replace Lucas and/or Lamela we should consider the left flank, because we need cover for Son and GKN ain't it
I mostly agree with that, but I want to find a RW as I think we should play a 4-3-3. I'd also sell Trippier instead of Aurier, unless that absolutely messes up our HG quotas.
I think we are seeing an exhausted Trippier who has played non stop (and through injuries) since August 2017. I think a proper rest over the summer and a good pre season will see him return to form.
Also somebody we can trust to rotate in and out of the team I know the Twitter and Reddit crowds have been lionising Aurier like he's Cafu's Ivorian cousin all season, but the fact of the matter is he simply isn't, as he's not just inconsistent but also injury prone. To be honest, as he counts as HG in Ligue 1, I'd be asking Lyon if they wanted a right back - preferably as part of a deal for either Ndombele or Aouar (or, if needs be, Fekir)
Here’s hoping... however the things about Trippier hasn’t been bad ‘form’ more so...careless decision making and coming across like he can get away with tossing it off. He’s always the first to complain at others for when he messes up. Maybe he can’t keep up with the expected intensity of a club like Spurs always expecting top performances week in week out as a wing back. That position is the catalyst for the whole system working and I don’t think Trippier is fit to lace Walker’s boots so I wouldn’t mind an upgrade. I mention Walker because wether we like it or not on a personal level, he set a standard for our full backs and our right backs thus far haven’t lived up to it and as a result the team has dropped as a collective force. Someone a bit more menacing and who can offer more as an attacking threat would be a welcome replacement. I’ve heard Zabaletta might be available
Plenty of players have played more games than him. Aurier has featured far more than he did last year, rotating at RB. I think we are just seeing Trippier full stop; a one-trick pony whose trick has been sussed out and nullified by even the poorest of opposition. The moment that Newport County LB neutralised him last season I gave up hope on Trippier ever being a top player. He is sadly lacking in too many aspects of his game to become one.
Aurier has made 41 appearances for us from August 2017 in all competitions Trippier has made 65 appearances for us from August 2017 in all competitions Trippier was also a key member of England's world cup team so got very little of a break last summer. On top of that he has been playing while injured. Maybe he ain't all that but it does seem feasible that a proper rest and pre season may help him regain his form.
Yesterday's Standard just so happened to mention that both Brentford and Wimbledon have stadium builds that are at least six months behind schedule I'm sure the Daily Wail will be devoting just as many column inches to making up all manner of rumours about going over budget and contractors not being paid as they were for our ST/\DIUM...right?
The chairman of Brentford gave interviews back in September slagging spurs off for missing target dates iirc
From the pictures I have seen and footage behind the scenes, you have a wonderful stadium. Chelsea fans must be extremely envious playing at their tiny Stamford Bridge ground?
Squad seems unusually large. A number of youth players in there, including Skipp, Roles, Oakley-Boothe, White and I think Hinds?
