http://www.kilburntimes.co.uk/qpr/cargiant_boss_rules_out_a_new_qpr_stadium_by_2018_1_3756333 Looks like CarGiant are looking to redevelop the site themselves.
Call it off...we cannot do this..... Mr Mendes (of CarGiant) said the plans released by QPR last year sent shockwaves through the company, who have 700 employees, including Les Ferdinand’s aunt.
My heart bleeds for them, many many more jobs will be created as a direct result of the stadium being built.
It really is just claim and counter claim at the moment........although the Car Giant chap is right in one thing, there is no way the stadium will be built by 2018, we are probably looking closer to 10 years......
The club are obviously holding out for the Mayoral Development Corporation which comes into effect next year in the hope that it will impose a compulsory purchase order on the land. That would make the cost significantly less than if the club wanted to buy the land on the open market. It's a risky game though, and I hope that they're sure that they have the political support to do that. I'd hate to see us miss out on this golden opportunity for a new ground just so some multi millionaires can save a few more millions.
Haha! I doubt it, doesn't look like a guy who's completely in tune with modern technology to me. Either way though he's packing in the mayor job next year to stand as an MP. Tony needs to get some lunch meetings in (and maybe a quick game of FIFA) with as many candidates standing to be the new mayor ASAP.
We are not even close to securing the site so why didn't the club just keep quiet about it? They're a just raising awarness of the sites availability and pushing the price up with the current owners.
What is better for London? A big chunk of redevelopment to keep the West up with East London development with lots of new housing, jobs, general infrastructure and improvement? Or a used car emporium that makes one man wealthier? Apparently Boris missed his target of new housing so I would guess that would take priority.
But that's exactly the problem. Car Giant have no intention of remaining on the site in the long term, but financially it's far better for them to sell up to potential suitors intent on a purely residential redevelopment, rather than one which includes a large stadium. It's a simple matter of getting offered more money per square metre for their land. Personally I am hoping that if push came to shove the QPR shareholders would be prepared to outbid any purely residential developers. They're playing a very risky game here by playing hardball.
Yes a pure Resi scheme would be hard to get through planning due to loss of employment/change of use etc. I suspect they wouldn't spent that much on a planning application without some advice though.
So basically everyone wants to panic buy the land? Seems about right. This is all part of the negotiations, the club will get a fair price when it is said and done.
Some insight on this from Dec 13, 2013 http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-london-25375052 In the video you get an appreciation of how large an area Wormwood Scrubs actually is - is it a designated park? do people frequent the area - it looks like a wasteland? why is it so far undeveloped? could we build a new stadium there?
I think you'll find it's M.O.D land and they want to keep it. Been stopped a few times over there as a kid by M.O.D police.
Here's more on the Scrubs:- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wormwood_Scrubs Wormwood Scrubs, known locally as The Scrubs, or simply just "Scrubs", is an open space located in the north-eastern corner of the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham in west London. It is the largest open space in the Borough, at 80 ha (200 acres), and one of the largest areas of common land in London. The eastern part, known as Little Wormwood Scrubs, is cut off by Scrubs Lane and the West London Line railway. It has been an open public space since the Wormwood Scrubs Act of 1879. The southern edge of the Scrubs is the site of two locally important buildings. At the western end is HM Prison Wormwood Scrubs, built between 1875 and 1891 by convict labour. To the east of the prison is the Hammersmith Hospital campus, which includes the relocated Queen Charlotte's and Chelsea Hospital. Within the area are several sports facilities, including the Linford Christie stadium, tens of football pitches and a pony centre. Queens Park Rangers Football Club played on The Scrubs between 1893 and 1896. please log in to view this image Looking east from the south-western edge of the Scrubs
Very interesting Kilburn. Thanks. It still has military connections to this day, cos 'the kings troop- royal horse artillery' still train there. That would also explain the M.O.D police as well.
