Looks like CarGiant are looking to redevelop the site themselves.
Looks like CarGiant are looking to redevelop the site themselves.
Call it off...we cannot do this.....
Mr Mendes (of CarGiant) said the plans released by QPR last year sent shockwaves through the company, who have 700 employees, including Les Ferdinand’s aunt.
so who do we believe? tony saying this is definitely going ahead or cargiant saying it def won't?
The club are obviously holding out for the Mayoral Development Corporation which comes into effect next year in the hope that it will impose a compulsory purchase order on the land. That would make the cost significantly less than if the club wanted to buy the land on the open market.
It's a risky game though, and I hope that they're sure that they have the political support to do that. I'd hate to see us miss out on this golden opportunity for a new ground just so some multi millionaires can save a few more millions.
Haha! I doubt it, doesn't look like a guy who's completely in tune with modern technology to me. Either way though he's packing in the mayor job next year to stand as an MP. Tony needs to get some lunch meetings in (and maybe a quick game of FIFA) with as many candidates standing to be the new mayor ASAP.Does Boris play FIFA?![]()
We are not even close to securing the site so why didn't the club just keep quiet about it? They're a just raising awarness of the sites availability and pushing the price up with the current owners.
What is better for London? A big chunk of redevelopment to keep the West up with East London development with lots of new housing, jobs, general infrastructure and improvement? Or a used car emporium that makes one man wealthier? Apparently Boris missed his target of new housing so I would guess that would take priority.
But that's exactly the problem. Car Giant have no intention of remaining on the site in the long term, but financially it's far better for them to sell up to potential suitors intent on a purely residential redevelopment, rather than one which includes a large stadium. It's a simple matter of getting offered more money per square metre for their land.
Personally I am hoping that if push came to shove the QPR shareholders would be prepared to outbid any purely residential developers. They're playing a very risky game here by playing hardball.
Some insight on this from Dec 13, 2013

In the video you get an appreciation of how large an area Wormwood Scrubs actually is - is it a designated park? do people frequent the area - it looks like a wasteland? why is it so far undeveloped? could we build a new stadium there?
I think you'll find it's M.O.D land and they want to keep it. Been stopped a few times over there as a kid by M.O.D police.
