Weiman and O'Dowda have commentated on his signing for the Rovers, comments were positive Rovers have signed Lamare Bogarde on a season long loan
Bristol Rovers is delighted to announce the signing of midfielder Lamare Bogarde from Aston Villa. Bogarde, 19, joins on loan until the end of the season and will wear the number 22 shirt which he wore for Rovers last season, when he made 17 appearances. The Dutch U20 international was born in Rotterdam and began his career at Feyenoord. Rovers’ manager Joey Barton said: “We are all delighted to have Lamy back in with us. He’s a talented player and, although on loan, he comes in already knowing us from the time he spent with us last season. This is a chance for him to really kick on and show his talent and, hopefully, we can reap the benefit of that this season.”
Blimey - they’re coming thick and fast now! We’ve got a pretty big squad - hopefully Barton can keep them happy and avoid further “Belshaw situations”.
11 in the door so far... James Wilson Luke Thomas Connor Taylor Jevani Brown George Friend Matthew Cox Tristan Crama Matt Hall Harvey Vale Jack Hunt Lamare Bogarde 4 loans I count. Room for another as 5 max allowed in a match day squad. Could do with another striker I think. After all, we were in for Alfie May so I guess we are looking for a Striker!
If we can keep everyone happy, a big squad will be good to rotate players to keep them fresh and fit instead of picking up injuries when games come thick and fast.
I got to say on paper, I think this could be the best we've ever done in a single transfer window bringing in youth, bringing in experience and bringing in quality. Great mix. I hope we don't jinx us here but I will now be disappointed if we don't make top 6. We are already playing like we are waiting to give teams a hammering. We have a lot of creativity and I can see goals coming from all over. We should be seen as dark horses by a lot of clubs in our league. Hopefully we go unnoticed though.
I agree that we've recruited well.....but unfortunately it's not going unnoticed! A few weeks ago I placed a £20 bet (for the first time in over a decade!) on Rovers gaining promotion at 11/1. That market has now tightened to 9/1 and will probably tighten further. Plus, Mark Bonner, Cambridge's manager, has already started the "psyching out the opposition" bit by claiming that we're candidates for the playoffs: Bristol Rovers tipped for play-off push by Cambridge United manager Mark Bonner - Bristol Live (bristolpost.co.uk)
When the fixtures came out before a lot of our signings were made or even before any signings were made, I had Cambridge down as the place where our season would begin at picking up our first points after a tough opening fixture. But the squad we've now built, it would be typical Rovers to do well against the top teams and cock it all up by losing to teams that we kind of expect to win. So I am glad Cambridge have had a good start because where we have a habit of losing games to struggling teams, I don't think Cambridge a struggling team so far, I think that will suit us to take it seriously and not go in thinking the game is already won.
I actually have no idea what our strongest starting 11 will be now. Obviously some players will be more regulars than others but I think we will be more harder to predict what our line up will be and therefore what tactics we will use.
JB rather implied that there would some departures along with Belshaw when he complained about him requesting a move 1 hour before Saturdays match. Wouldn't be surprised if Gibbons departed with Hunt now signed
I think Gibbons, Belshaw, Jones and maybe even Connolly will go out on loan before the end of the month. And if we recruit a big striker then Loft could go too.
Ryan Woods joins Rovers on a season-long loan from Hull. The defensive midfielder comes with plenty of experience, having 274 Championship appearances to his name as well as 48 appearances in League One. The Englishman had 28 appearances last season for Hull as well as two assists. Beginning his career at Shrewsbury, Woods enjoyed time at Brentford, Stoke City, Millwall and Birmingham before joining Hull last August. Rovers' boss Joey Barton said: "We are delighted Ryan Woods has agreed to join us on loan from Hull. Ryan is another player who adds both quality and experience to our group and I’m sure he will be a great addition creating more competition for places."
