Thinking positively, and if the relegation thing does happen, we will be out of the terminal boredom of the Premier League (very positive). Those players that don't really want to be here will drive away in their rich boys cars to pastures anew (donkey rescue shelter for some of them). We will be left poorer, leaner but hopefully with a group of players who want to be here. The money doesn't matter, the passion and fight in the team does.
Danny Ings will stay, become captain and be a loyal and motivational talisman around whom a young talented team can be built (optimistic and realistic). The academy will be energised with a very clear pathway through to the first team. A few years in the Championship floating around the top of the league will be fun, with new grounds to visit, thumping great wins and real football.
So it's not at all bad and might be just what the club needs to get St Mary's back to being a fun place to be, which has to be positive all round.

The trouble with the dropping down to the championship will be for the best in the long term theory is that quite often the reverse is true!
You look at Stoke for example and countless other teams who arrive in the championship with a load of ****e players on inflated premier league contracts / salarys and whose value plummets instantly and no one wants to buy and the players themselves dont want to leave and take a lower salary so it can get very messy as we know from our own experience.
If we go down I would say its more likely that we would find ourselves in a relegation battle in the championship than levying for promotion back to the premier league!!! We should sell the deadwood in Janaury if we are doomed by then. Hows that for optimistic

Far too many negative vibes for a positive thread Jonny.....Stoke are a poor example. Many relegated teams do just fine, such as Villa, Newcastle, Fulham, and Swansea.

Love it, how united are they! And they've had hardly anything to be cheerful about over the years! We have a bit of a bump(3 years or so admittedly) and many of us are giving up. The world is pretty ****ed, the country is pretty ****ed, theres no need to add Football to the list! Come on you Reds!! Up the Saints!!
The most optimistic thing I can think of is we said exactly the same thing (we're doomed, no chance, this the year we go etc) at this stage of the season for the last 4 years and stayed up each time
