Agree it's way too early. But I got lot of respect for Ramsey. Just watched his post-match interview on the BBC, on the nail.
One thing having respect for Ramsey but at the end of the day it's results that count & his record so far is pretty abysmal.
I know. Still I see big improvement in the collective team performances, individual player performances, and his talk certainly sounds like we are far more professional and tight as a team than before. If that improvement continues we could be a good team, too late no doubt. Some Managers turn teams round quick before they slump again, others build more gradually but last longer. Think he is more in the 2nd group, but he needs to keep and build up the raw material which of course may not be possible. I don't think the players he has had available are enough or good enough, and doubt that many Managers would have pulled us out of the mire. Maybe a lucky bååæstard would have.
Sort of agree with Swords re Big Sam but only in the Prem (as he keeps teams up). However in the Championship i would want a fresh face manager who likes a passing team. Said before i like Ramsey but i don't want to risk our future on him.
Big Sam is on similar money to what Harry was on here, around £3 million a year. For that you'd geta boring set-up that would be similar to Harry's Championship borefest. There's no guarantee that he'd be successful and, to be honest, I doubt he'd come to us as our financial position under FFP would surely be very limiting especially if we are under an embargo. Everything at present points to Ramsey in charge next season...
i'd keep Ramsey bit give him the opportunity to build a side rather then give him HR's side. Money has been wasted on some players who haven't justified their salaries
Play to Ramsey's strengths and keep him as a coach. He talks sense, is positive, and seems to have motivated the players into working much harder. However, I haven't agreed with some of his selections or his tactics so I'm not sure he'd ever be good as a manager, even with a longer run at it. I'd choose Steve McClaren, if he'd come: he's tried and tested at Championship and Premier League level. He may not have got Derby promoted but with the resources of Tony and friends behind him, we'd have a good chance with him of getting up and staying up. He's probably likely to get a better offer, though. Maybe Clement as my second choice but, despite his pedigree, I really don't know enough about him and he's never been a No. 1, has he? I agree with North London: the last few seasons have been difficult and there's been too few games where I've honestly enjoyed the football. Big Sam would not change that, even if we won a few more games, so I'll pass on him, thanks.
Hope you're right. However if the Board's decisions over the last 4 years are anything to go by, I would be rubbing my hands if I was contemplating a battle with them. Yes they can spend a fortune. They can also afford to take a big hit in costs. But wishful thinking apart, can anyone say with any conviction that our owners are right? If they are, then certainly it will settle for a reasonably sized slap on the wrist. If not the owners will be gambling again with the future of our club. What do we do in the meantime while the posturing goes on and the legal processes possibly for a couple of years. And all the time potentially under a transfer embargo? That will make us an even more attractive proposition for Paul Clement and Mark Warburton.
I think some of the stardust has fallen off Steve McLaren. This season can only go down as a failure for him given the position they were in last season. The Derby fans know that so why are we stll singing his praises without any doubt at all. Let's face it. We've complained long enough about Redknapp's habit of buying has-beens. Would you be jumping for joy if McClaren's first move was to sign Darren Bent? A player who has failed at every single prem club that has bought him over the years. That's a serious question and question mark about McLaren by the way.
No, I wouldn't have been happy to recruit a lazy, has-been like Darren Bent for an aspirational Championship side, even on loan, as DCFC did. However, I would have been wrong: according to the DCFC website, he has scored 10 goals in 15 appearances or 12 in 17 if you count the cup. A smart move by an experienced manager. But you're right: some of the stardust has undoubtedly fallen off McClaren and this season has been a relative failure for him: which is why we might be able to persuade him to come to us.
