A fact that you've seemed to have either ignored or chosen simply to gloss over is that Warnock did not seek to be the manager initially, he was apparently angling after a DOF roll so didn't put himself forward. By the time he decided he wanted the managers job the club pretty much already had JFH in place....

Former Milton Keynes Dons boss Karl Robinson has emerged as the new favourite for the vacant Queens Park Rangers job, according to The Sack Race.
Karl Robinson was sacked as manager of Milton Keynes recently after six years with the Buckinghamshire-based outfit.
The 36-year-old had led Milton Keynes to promotion to the Championship in 2014/15 but his side was relegated back to the third tier just one year later.
He continued to struggle in the role this season and was dismissed with Milton Keynes just adrift of the League One relegation zone.
QPR sacked Dutchman Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink last week after 11 months in charge.
The West London side were hoping to announce a new manager over the international break with Tim Sherwood being widely tipped to be Hasselbaink’s successor.
But Robinson has leapfrogged him into pole position for the role with Ian Holloway, Gary Rowett and Paul Clement also considered to be candidates.

He was appointed manager of League One team Milton Keynes Dons on 10 May 2010, having previously been the club's assistant manager under previous boss Paul Ince.[8][9] At 30 years of age, he was the youngest manager at the time in the Football League and former England coach John Gorman was named his number two.[10]
In the 2010–11 season, his first season in charge, Robinson guided MK Dons to fifth place in League One. This was regarded as a good achievement, improving on the Dons' points total over the previous season.[11] The team lost in the playoffs to Peterborough United over two legs.[citation needed]
In the 2011–12 season, he continued making impressive strides, attracting big name players and guiding his side to another 5th-place finish and was again in the play-offs. During the season, he signed a 3-year contract extension with the Dons.[12] Robinson masterminded arguably MK Dons greatest victory, a 4–0 win over Manchester United on 26 August 2014, [13] as well as leading the Dons to promotion to the Championship for the first time, finishing as runners-up in League One.[14]
On 20 July 2015, Robinson signed a contract extension at the Dons along with the club's Head of Coaching, Richie Barker. However, MK Dons did not publicise the length of either deals.[15] Robinson's MK Dons suffered relegation from The Championship during the 2015/16 season, with MK Dons finishing in 23rd position.
If I remember rightly he was in charge of them when they played us off the park in an FA Cup Tie at HQ a few years ago, 4-2 they won and the scoreline flattered us......also he had to operate with his best players being sold, Deli Ali anyone?
Has a reputation for trying to play good attractive football, so wouldn't be the worst appointment IMO.
