Didn't expect all this negativity today. *logs back out*
They've given everyone too much time to think about it...if he'd been appointed weeks ago, we'd all be back on the bandwagon. The problem is that most know nothing, but a few (not just on here) are being emphatic as if they know Puel is the worst appointment since football began. Things may be fantastic or may not work out...with all shades in between. One thing it won't be is the end of the world.

That's what I don't get. When we signed Adkins, Pochettino and (to a lesser extent because of his reputation as a player) Koeman I'm sure we questioned those appointments too but they all seemed to work out ok. Saying you "can't warm" to Puel before he's even signed for us or given an interview or anything seems a bit short-sighted. Although it is obviously relevenant, I try not to judge a manager too much on his record with other teams because our last three managers' careers took a huge upward curve when they took control of Southampton and I have reasons to be optimistic the same can happen again this time.

As I've said before on here, my view is the board do know better than us. They are the ones really ITK, and not guessing from snippets around. If they think he is the man, he's the man.

We are all worried that we've ridden our luck with players and Managers, but believe it or not, there really isn't a 'law of averages' that says we will eventually get it wrong.

I for one, will be delighted to see Southampton re-adopt a high press. By far the most exciting football I've ever seen in all my days as a season ticket holder. Whether it's Puel or Poch, I'm not sure it matters that much. Sampaoli came out of obscurity to do it for Chile so I completely back Claude to do it for us.

Yep I loved the Poch days of the high press, then the red arrows streaming forward. We were unplayable at times. That is why so many failed after moving on from us. We were a TEAM (much like Leicester are) and not 11 Talented individuals (aka the England team)

Just as well Samuel didn't advise Man Utd, I mean Mourinho's relegation threatened Chelsea (when he left lol) was not exactly an endorsement! How dare the arrogant prick consider himself qualified to comment on a club which has repeatedly ignored the media's 'best way to run the club', whilst producing 7 consecutive years of improvement. And he works for a newspaper that states how the politicians are out of touch with reality - a sports journalist who doesn't understand the first thing about the sport he writes about! I don't think I have ever felt so much contempt for a long time. It staggers me he gets paid for such tosh!

Give me some criteria for that and timing.

*by the way, I can't believe we are even discussing it and that you seem so determined that he will be bad*
Bottom half of the table, out of all cup competitions early. Probably around February if that happens. If he can't get us competing for European football he's done a bad job.

Everyone has the right to be stupid (and Martin has taken full advantage of that over the years), but as someone said...we aren't the only ones who haven't selected the NI manager...why are we responsible if he doesn't get a chance, as opposed to every other team.

Serious question Tom and to anyone else concerned:

What if he comes and he fails. What if this is the season Les gets it wrong and we have a bad season. So what?

Gnashing of teeth. Rending of garments. Beating of breasts. Losing of ****. That sort of thing.

Almost worth it just to see it. And so long as we beat Liverpool again, and Everton, some of us will still be happy.

Will you have the same criteria for the referees in the forthcoming season? If in bottom half of referee performance table based on cards issued, mistakes made etc etc - sack them even if overall they have managed the matches well? You seem to be forgetting there are 19 other teams whose performance will directly affect where we finish. If it was only down to how well we play I would have us top every season please, no excuses!

No. City had competition - Spurs, Arsenal. Lyon had no one of a similar stature to compete with.

Tom, the power of Spurs and Arsenal wasn't the reason City didn't win the league last year. The reason City didn't win the league was because, by the sum of the individual parts, they were way, way, way below par. It happens.
