Okay, here's a wildcard option for you -
Marcello Gallardo from River Plate.
Or Vincenzo Montella.
I'd love Montella, he's class

Gary Neville???
I think that's a bit harsh, TSS.
Let's not forget we took considerable leaps forward with a man who had one job and got fired from it in Spain (with his team bottom of the league and adrift, no less), and spoke through an interpreter.
Eddie's done a stunning job with Bournemouth and fits the club's profile.
Agreed. Howe and bournemouth seem a great fit and so long as they stay together I can see both getting better and better. We are aspiring to be a champions league club - we may or may not get there - but it would be a large gamble to take any (not just howe ) manager of limited experience at the higher levels of the game.Clearly you haven't read all my posts on Eddie. I can't explain it in full every time. Eddie is an excellent coach, but he's not ready for Southampton at the level we want to be operating in. We need someone with European experience and success in winning titles at top level. We also need someone who is a symbol. Koeman fitted the bill before. As it has been forced upon us we might take this opportunity to step even further forward, not back, or at best, stand still.
I don't mean any disrespect to Howe, Perhaps he could serve under a Gus Hiddink type, but I think he's better where he is, with AFCB. I want them to do well too, so he's well placed.

Going to have to say this one more time: Eddie Howe. Good coach, possibly good enough even. But no thanks. Stay where you are Eddie. Possibly in about 10 years. Possibly not.
Why ?
I agree he has been a success at the Cherries , but flopped at Burnley .
I admire him , but I just think there is something about him and The Cherries that just " Clicks " . Hell of a risk given our current situation IMHO .
TSS, 10 years? Mad. He's possibly good enough now, then he's definitely good enough soon. Not 10 years. I don't think he'll be our next manger but I've been championing him as a future Saints and England manager for a very long time. A very long time. He's class and will go all the way.
I'm easy about the next manager; I don't think it'll be Howe this time though.
What is a smartarse? Someone who thinks they're right all of the time? That sounds like most of the women I know.
OK 5 years, I'm not really bothered about the time interval. There's little need to pick my posts apart with tweezers. I like him as a coach, but not for us.
If all the women you know are always right, sounds like you are always wrong.
A big difference between Howe and Poch is that Poch played football at a high level, in Europe and as an international.
Howe played for Bompey and Pompey.
I would back him, if we went for him, but I would worry that he wouldn't get the full support of our international squad of players.
I also don't think he would be much of a draw for players, we're trying to bring in.
Jose Mourinho
AVB
Arsene Wenger
SAF
Lawrie Mac
Being a top manager has very little to do with being a top player.
Don't be so sensitive. That's hardly picking a post with tweezers, I pointed out one thing. No need TSS, no need.
